A giant male school bus driver who apparently identifies as a transgender and goes by the name “Ms. Sharon” to the kids has just been arrested in North Carolina on child sex abuse charges. 48-year-old Leetwain Darrell Tate (his real name) allegedly lured multiple teenage boys to his house before raping them. Reportedly, he offered them money for sex. Leetwain Darrell Tate is accused of sexually assaulting at least four boys, aged 14 and 15, after allegedly luring them to his home. Authorities believe there may be additional victims. Tate was suspended from his job as a school bus driver during the weeks-long investigation and ultimately fired before being taken into custody. WCNC has more: The crime charges involve juveniles aged 14 to 15, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Tuesday. Tate was arrested Tuesday by the department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team without incident, according to police. Tate faces two counts of statutory rape, six counts of indecent liberties with a minor and one count of statutory sex offense, police said. The charges stem from an investigation by the department’s Crimes Against Children Unit. After the arrest, Tate was transported to the Law Enforcement Center for an interview with detectives before being charged and transferred to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office custody. Tate’s family, who was present at the courthouse Wednesday, told WCNC Charlotte they believe Tate is innocent. Tate was previously employed as a school bus driver at Sugar Creek Charter School. The school suspended Tate during the investigation and terminated Tate from employment on Sunday, according to police. “I appreciate the work of the Crimes Against Children unit for their serious investigation, as well as the courage of these juvenile victims who came forward in this case,” Lt. Corey Geohagen said during a Tuesday afternoon press briefing. “This is, by no means, easy for the victims to relive the terrible crimes committed against them, but their courage led to the arrest of a violent criminal. In many cases, crimes against children are never reported. Fear, shame, or threats of an abuser keep the victim silent, meaning there’s always a chance that more victims are suffering, suffering in silence.” Preliminary information indicates the incidents did not occur on school property or while Tate was operating a school bus, police said. An arrest affidavit reviewed by WCNC Charlotte indicates there were at least four victims, with several boys staying at Tate’s residence. At least one reported being offered money for sexual acts. As a parent, this story is terrifying. It’s incredibly disturbing that schools are totally okay with hiring mentally-ill people who (surprise, surprise) go on to hurt the kids they are supposed to be protecting. This is a huge reminder to stay vigilant and aware of who is around your kids. Don’t just blindly trust the schools. Not only does this monster need to be locked up for life, but we seriously need schools to take action to prevent this type of thing, which happens all too often. What do you think?
