Networks Predictably Punt on Psycho Liberal Katie Porter Going Beserk on Local Reporter

On Tuesday, clips went viral on X of former Congresswoman Katie Porter (D-CA) — who’s running to become governor of California — pitching an utterly bizarre tantrum after CBS News Sacramento’s Julie Watts asked Porter if she had planned to seek to win the votes of Californians who voted for President Trump. Unsurprisingly, the Wednesday flagship morning shows of ABC, CBS, and NBC ignored this development in the race to become the governor of the country’s largest state and a cartoonish meltdown from someone with a porous record of high staff turnover and abusive behavior, including pouring scalding-hot potatoes on her then-husband’s head. These networks had plenty of time over the last two days for Prime Deal days, of course. First, here’s how it all went down:   Given the love she’s received over the years from shows such as CBS Mornings, ABC’s The View, and late-night comedy shows, the left’s base audience wouldn’t want to impugn her chances. Hence her arrogance and disgust when a local reporter chose to actually do her job. In contrast, the Fox News Channel and Newsmax covered it throughout the day Wednesday, but also NewsNation and even CNN gave it attention. Our friend Bonchie posted a partial transcript at RedState, starting when things went downhill. When Porter whined such a question about reaching out to Trump voters was “unnecessarily argumentative,” Watts noted this was the “same” question she had “asked “ all the candidates running. The conversation circled the drain with Porter digging in and, at one point, attempt to abort the interview as forcefully as she supports actual murder of babies: “I don’t want to keep doing this. I’m going to call it.” Watts replied with exasperation, to which Porter delivered what will inadvertently become an iconic, inside-joke-level quip: “I want to have a pleasant, positive conversation.” Porter insisted follow-ups were too much for her, leaving Watts floored yet again: “You’ve never had to have a conversation with a reporter?” “So you’re not going to answer questions from reporters? Okay, why don’t we go through, I will continue to ask follow-up questions because that’s my job as a journalist, but I will go through and ask these, and if you don’t want to answer, you don’t have to answer,” Watts added. The kicker came at the end of the video with Porter reiterating “I don’t want to have an unhappy experience with you” and leveling a mind-numblingly stupid decree of Watts and the CBS Sacramento team: “I don’t want this all on camera.” As he always does, Bonchie nailed it in reaction to this hoopla: Based on her statements, it seems as if Porter thought she could end the interview and bully the network into not releasing the footage. They did, though, and it's an awful look for a person who's already swamped with a history of anger-related scandals. Throughout the exchange, Porter talks herself in circles while the reporter actually tries to re-center her several times. It was such a softball question, too. All she had to say was that she respects every voter and will not take a single vote for granted.
