“Here’s A Thanksgiving Original For Ya” – Parker McCollum Is Tired Of Christmas Getting All The Songs & Is Taking It Upon Himself To Fix That

Justice for Thanksgiving music. While Halloween hasn’t passed yet, some folks are already in the holiday spirit and preparing for Christmas. While my family was never a “Christmas tree goes up right after Thanksgiving family”, the older I get, the more I understand the excitement for the magical winter holiday. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, but because my family was not massive Christmas decorators and we are a live-tree family, we did not rush through Thanksgiving to turn our home into a winter wonderland. Each holiday gets its time in the spotlight. Half of the reason folks love Christmas is the abundance of Christmas songs to listen to. From the classics of “White Christmas” to the newer tunes like Zach Top’s “For You For Christmas,” the songs that come with this holiday are unmatched. And the number of Christmas songs highlights how musically underappreciated other holidays are. Parker McCollum is here to address the lack of non-Christmas songs during the holiday season and has taken it upon himself to deliver a Thanksgiving song. “Alright, so everybody always makes Christmas music, loves Christmas music. Nobody ever makes Thanksgiving music, as far as I know. I’m sure somebody has to some extent, so I thought I’d give y’all a little Thanksgiving song that I wrote… goes something like this.” McCollum then strikes up the tune, which goes to the melody of the famed Christmas song “Santa Baby,” which, I’m not going to lie, feels like an oxymoron of sorts to be laying down a Thanksgiving tune to the melody of a Christmas song. I digress… McCollum’s ditty goes a little like this: “Sweet potato,  Brown sugar, butter and cream For me I eat it on Thanksgiving Sweet potato  Hurry to my tummy tonight Hurry to my tummy tonight” I mean… I see the vision, but McCollum was even disappointed with his effort of making a Thanksgiving song, saying: “Not as cool as I thought.” It was at least a valiant effort. @parkermccollumY’all got Christmas songs, here’s a Thanksgiving original for ya♬ original sound – parkermccollum Maybe McCollum should let that Thanksgiving Queen let her anthem be the primary song for that holiday… @much A CLASSIC #beansgreenspotatoes ♬ original sound – MuchMusic McCollum is right that Thanksgiving is gypped each year on the music end, but I think he should stick to the solid country gold heartbreakers and love songs. But hey- if McCollum wants to release a holiday album in the future, at least the comments on his impromptu Thanksgiving song showed him he could do a combo Thanksgiving/Christmas record. The post “Here’s A Thanksgiving Original For Ya” – Parker McCollum Is Tired Of Christmas Getting All The Songs & Is Taking It Upon Himself To Fix That first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
