Perhaps those poor traumatized former teenagers will finally get some closure. Yellowjackets co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson announced on Friday that their critically acclaimed series will call it quit after the upcoming fourth season. An Instagram post from the Yellowjackets account reads:
“After three incredible seasons, and great consideration, we’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the story of Yellowjackets to its twisted conclusion in this fourth and final season. We’ve always known there would come a point when the story would tell us it wants to end, and it’s our belief that our job — our responsibility — is to listen. Telling this emotional, wild, and deeply human story has been a profoundly meaningful experience and a true honor for us, and we’re so very grateful to the brilliant cast, crew, and writers who have bravely gone on the journey with us to bring it to life. Most of all, we want to thank the fans who have stuck with us through every moment, mystery and meal — the Hive is nothing without you! We can’t wait to share the final chapter with you and hope you find it…delicious.” All the best, A & B
In 2023, Lyle told Entertainment Weekly, “The original plan was about five seasons, and we feel like we’re still on track for that.” Earlier this year, she told Deadline that they had a “concept” for how the show should end—and they’ve had it since the beginning.
The fourth season is expected to begin production in early 2026 and debut later that year.
Yellowjackets premiered in 2021, presenting the dual-timeline story of a team of teenage soccer players who survive a plane crash—and their adult selves, still traumatized by what happened in the wilderness. The all-star cast includes Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Kevin Alves, Sarah Desjardins, and Simone Kessell, with Elijah Wood, Hilary Swank, Joel McHale, and Ashley Sutton in guest-starring or recurring roles. The first two seasons were both nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, and Lynskey and Ricci have both been nominated for their work on the show.
You can watch the first three seasons of Yellowjackets on Paramount+ with Showtime.[end-mark]
