“Watching The Baby Owl In Our Backyard Learn To Fly”

Danielle “Dani” Ober lives an idyllic life in the Amish country of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She has been fortunate to have a family of barred owls nesting in her backyard. The mated pair had one hatchling this year, who recently fledged. Dani got to watch the first tentative scoots from branch to branch as the baby owl began learning to fly. @staysanddos Nature is incredible. #barredowl #owlsoftiktok #birdtok #babyowl #717 #wildlifemoments #owlwatching #backyardwildlife #naturetok #owls #birdlovers #owlfamily #birdwatching #owl #learntofly #natureathome #lancasterpa @jotoole.golf ♬ suono originale – New60s70srevenge – New60s70srevenge Dani has nicknamed the fledgling “Dopey Baby Owl” and labeled her video. It’s easy to see where the nickname comes from. The video starts with Dopey flying from one branch to a lower branch and landing awkwardly. Dani introduces us to the entire family. Dopey flies down and lands on the ground. He is not graceful, but at least he isn’t crashing. Next, Dopey flies up the branch Papa Owl is on. As he starts walking up the branch to get near his dad, the male owl flies off. Dopey seems to mope for a few seconds, then gains his confidence and flies up to the branch his dad just left. Success! Although he still appears to be wobbly and lacks confidence, he is on his way to joining the realm of the night fliers. Image from TikTok. Dani is a 28-year-old teacher by trade, and a birdwatcher by proximity to nature. This fascinating process may be shown in a classroom in the future. Dani has plenty of time between chores to watch the baby owl learn to fly. Their property is on a river, so her entire backyard is like a National Geographic documentary chronicling Pennsylvania wildlife. Dani says they routinely see eagles, hawks, osprey, cranes, tons of songbirds, rabbits, deer, squirrels, groundhogs, and foxes. In one comment, she labels her yard as an “oasis.” Please share.
