Taylor Swift Surprises 2-Year-Old Fan Battling Cancer With Massive GoFundMe Donation

Lilah Smoot was only 18 months old when she had a seizure that changed her family’s life forever. Her mom, Katelynn Smoot, was ready to give birth to Lilah’s little brother when a doctor gave her heartbreaking news. Lilah had just been brought to the emergency room after having a seizure. A scan found a mass on Lilah’s brain, and while Katelynn and her husband, Tyler, wanted to remain hopeful, they feared the worst. Lilah underwent surgery, and pathology revealed she had ATRT, atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. “When the pathology confirmed it was one of the most aggressive tumors, we just cried. We cried for three days straight,” Katelynn Smoot told People. @standwithlilah I didn’t know they were friends @Taylor Swift @Taylor Nation #fateofopheliataylorswift #TLOASG #taylorswift ♬ original sound – The Smoots Katelynn Smoot Began Posting About Lilah’s Cancer Journey On Social Media Katelynn Smoot decided to use social media to help spread awareness about Lilah’s cancer. She posted a video on TikTok on October 8 that showed Lilah dancing to Taylor Swift’s Fate of Ophelia video. She pointed at the screen and said, “That’s my friend.” The video blew up with many people tagging Taylor Nation. Katelynn joked with Tyler about what could happen if Taylor really did see the video. Then a few days later, she received a call Katelynn will never forget. Tyler told her that Taylor donated $100,000 to the family’s GoFundMe. “At first, I thought he was joking,” Katelynn Smoot told People. “For about 30 minutes, we questioned if it was real. But then we saw it come through on the back end of GoFundMe, along with a message that said, ‘Sending you the biggest hug to my friend Lilah.’ That’s when I knew Taylor really saw the video — and she meant it.” Katelynn posted a follow-up video of Lilah saying, “Thank you, Swifties.” Fans were more than happy to help Taylor Swift’s sweet little friend, Lilah. “’Swifties are a cult’ so what if we are, we’re the best damn cult around! and we protect OUR family,” someone wrote. Lilah’s GoFundMe has raised more than $330,000. This story’s featured image can be found here.
