Brandon Lake Confirms “When A Cowboy Prays” Duet Featuring Cody Johnson Is Coming Soon: “I Heard All Of Your Comments”

Giving the fans what they want. Though he’s firmly planted in the Christian music genre, Brandon Lake has been making waves in country music as of late. Back in February, the “Gratitude” singer teamed up with Jelly Roll on a re-release of his 2024 single, “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” and it’s been nothing short of a smash hit. Beyond scoring a #1 hit on both of Billboard’s religious charts, Hot Christian and Christian Airplay, the track’s success, along with Forrest Frank’s viral smash “Your Way’s Better,” marked the first time two separate Christian songs made Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 chart for the first time in over a decade. It seems like Lake isn’t done making major crossovers into country, however. In addition to his recent surprise appearance with Cole Swindell when the pair teamed up to perform his latest single inspired by the assassination of Charlie Kirk, “Make Heaven Crowded,” over the past two months, there have been major rumors of Lake teaming up with none other than Cody Johnson. In case you missed it, Lake released his highly anticipated single, “When A Cowboy Prays,” a certified country song centered around the power of prayer and the redemption found through faith. It’s been nothing short of a success too, currently sitting at #7 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart and racking up nearly 1.5 million streams since its release on September 26. Though the song has been a success on its own, one thing that has nearly been overshadowing it is the looming prospect of Johnson appearing on it. Why is CoJo so heavily rumored on the track despite never appearing alongside Lake? Well, that one’s pretty simple. Back when he teased the song in August, the Christian superstar asked fans to tag someone they know that they’d consider to be a cowboy in the comment section of his TikTok. Though it’s likely he meant to tag friends and family to further promote the new song, commenters began to spam the comment section to beg him to include the “Dirt Cheap” singer on the track. “Get Cody Johnson on this with you.” “Brandon, you better be on the phone with Cody Johnson right now. Do not ignore this please.” “Sir if you don’t get COJO on a version of this.” “This is definitely a good song to collaborate with Cody Johnson.” “Please get COJO for collaboration.” “Great song, get Cody Johnson sing with you.” “This with Cody Johnson would be even harder than it already is.” “CODY JOHNSON NEEDS TO BE IN THIS WITH YOU!” Flash forward to his show this week in Columbus, Ohio, and Lake dropped the bombshell that Johnson will, in fact, be featured on a re-release of the tack which is coming very soon. In a video captured by TikTok user, @sdcooper6, he would confirm that the Texas native already recorded his part of the song: “I’m not telling anybody except for those who showed up for my tour, but you can’t post about it ’cause it’s a secret. This song I’m about to sing, I just recorded with Cody Johnson. And we’re gonna come out with it. I heard all of your comments. I wrote this song, and you’re like, ‘This sounds like CoJo. You gotta get CoJo.’ I was like, ‘Honey, already on it.'” @sdcooper6 One of Brandon Lake’s first performances of his NEW SONG released 9/26/25 – When a Cowboy Prays @Brandon Lake #brandonlake #whenacowboyprays #christianconcert #worshipjesus #worshipmusic ♬ original sound – Stephanie – sdcooper6 As of now, “When A Cowboy Prays,” featuring Cody Johnson does not have an official release date. However, given that the cat’s out of the bag due to TikTok, it’s safe to assume that it’ll be here sooner rather than later.
