What are you going to do when Billy-Strings-Mania runs wild on you? We’re inching closer and closer to the end of October, which means we have undoubtedly entered into “Spooky Season.” I don’t know when it was officially coined that, but it seems like it really caught on in the last decade or so. And if you ask me, I love the tagline for this time of the year. Halloween has to be the most underrated holiday of them all. There’s nothing like having fun sized candy all over the place at all times, watching scary movies to really ring in the fright-fueled holiday, and dressing up and pretending you are someone (or something) you aren’t Billy Strings could easily go as himself for Halloween and no one would mind at all. Typically, doing the “no costume” excuse would be categorized as lame, but William Lee Apostol (A.K.A. Billy Strings) could get away with it. That being said… if he’s got this Hulk Hogan costume somewhere in his closet, not a year should go by without him rocking it. Back in 2023, Billy Strings and his band had a show on Hallow’s Eve in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was basically a hometown show (he’s from Lansing), which makes sense as to why he felt so comfortable bringing out the Halloween costumes for himself and his band. And they went all out with the wrestling theme. There was an actual wresting ring, WWE-style announcers, a fake fight with a guitar tech, and some world-class wrestling costumes. It was billed as the “Van Andel Scramble,” and Billy Strings was dressed head-to-toe like Hulk Hogan. His bandmates went as other famous wrestlers, like “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Sting, and the Undertaker. If you’ve never seen footage from the concert, it’s simply incredible. Seeing someone dressed up as Hulk Hogan – massive mustache and all – and absolutely shredding the guitar is something you had no idea you needed. Billy Strings was undoubtedly trying to play the character of Hulk Hogan throughout the night, but when it came to the actual guitar playing… he was 100%, pure, unadulterated Billy Strings. Visually, it’s stunning. Musically, it’s immaculate. In Halloween terms, it’s exactly what the holiday is all about. Revisiting this is a touch sad since the world lost Hulk Hogan back in July at age of 71-years-old. Though it had been quite some time since Hulk Hogan had stepped into the wrestling ring, he was still one of the world’s most recognizable wrestlers. That’s a testament to his theatrics inside and outside the ring while he was an active pro-wrestler. The Hulkster had an expansive fanbase that would recreate anything and everything there was about Hulk Hogan – from his signature wrestling moves to his instantly recognizable bandana and handlebar mustache combo.
