Boston College Republicans announced last Thursday that they were disavowing the remarks of their guest speaker, American Moment CEO Nick Solheim, delivered last Monday, which they deemed offensive and inflammatory. Solheim still urged the crowd not to resort to political violence, stating that “we don’t assassinate, attack indiscriminately, or violate our enemy, and for a simple reason.” However, the Boston College Republicans executive board denounced Solheim’s remarks on Oct. 24, claiming in a letter that his views and rhetoric “were unprecedented and unrepresentative of the views of our club members, and we do not endorse any of these views.” “We uphold the notion of civil discourse and believe that there is always a time for respectful discussion, even with those who do not agree with us,” the executive board added. The Heritage Foundation and the College Republicans of America came to Solheim’s defense, accusing Boston College Republicans of being weak and disloyal.
