House Republicans Call For The DOJ To Investigate NYC Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani’s Path Of Citizenship
Could this actually happen?
House Republicans are currently pushing the Department of Justice to investigate how Zohran Mamdani became a United States citizen.
The charge is being led by Rep. Randy Fine of Florida who has called for the DOJ to investigate how Mamdani became naturalized.
The New York Post had more details to add on Fine’s call to the DOJ:
The first immigration case NYC mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani may have to confront if elected could be his own – as two House Republicans push the Justice Department to probe his path to citizenship and possibly boot him from the US.
Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla.) last week demanded the feds “review every naturalization of the past 30 years – starting with Mamdani.”
“I just think we need to take a hard look at how these folks became citizens, and if there is any fraud or any violation of the rules we need to denaturalize and deport,” Fine told the Post.
He also called for a probe of anti-Israel “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who was born in Somalia and is one of the first two women Muslims to serve in Congress.
Mamdani is a threat to the nation, he continued. “I know that there’s a lot of us that are very, very concerned about the enemy within – people who have come to this country to become citizens, to destroy it.”
He dismissed logistical concerns about yanking the citizenship of naturalized Americans after they got elected to top jobs. “If they’re not Americans, they can’t be in office,” he said.
Rep. Andy Ogles has also called for Mamdani citizenship to be revoked:
JUST IN: Rep. Andy Ogles just formally asked Attorney General Bondi to REVOKE Zohran Mamdani’s citizenship and DEPORT him back to Uganda
Mamdani was openly supporting TERR0R ORGANIZATIONS prior to becoming a citizen, making him INELIGIBLE.

NBC News reported more on Rep. Ogles letter to the DOJ:
Immediately after Zohran Mamdani became the presumptive Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City last month, one Republican congressman had a provocative suggestion for the Trump administration: “He needs to be DEPORTED.”
The Uganda-born Mamdani obtained U.S. citizenship in 2018 after moving to the United States with his parents as a child. But Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., argued in his post on X that the Justice Department should consider revoking it over rap lyrics that, he said, suggested support for Hamas.
The Justice Department declined to comment on whether it has replied to Ogles’ letter, but White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said of his claims about Mamdani, “Surely if they are true, it’s something that should be investigated.”
Trump himself has claimed without evidence that Mamdani is an illegal immigrant, and when erstwhile ally Elon Musk was asked about deporting another naturalized citizen, he suggested he would consider it.
