Luke Combs Scores 19th Career #1 Hit On Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart With “Back In The Saddle”

Another day, another #1. October has been nothing short of a whirlwind for Luke Combs. To begin the month on October 3rd, the North Carolina native previewed his upcoming album with the release of the three-song EP, The Prequel, which featured the highly anticipated single, “My Kinda Saturday Night.” Not to be outdone, however, just three days after The Prequel’s release, Combs would pass Garth Brooks to become the highest-selling country artist of all time, officially selling 168 million units according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Just when you thought the buzz surrounding Combs this year had died down, he would then announce (and quickly extend) his massive 2026 My Kinda Saturday Night international tour, featuring Dierks Bentley, Thomas Rhett, Ty Myers, The Castellows and many more. Finally, his fourth and final notable moment in October came in the form of a second location for his Nashville bar, Category 10, which was just confirmed to open in Las Vegas next fall. So, how do you celebrate the release of a highly anticipated album teaser, becoming the highest-selling artist in country music history, plotting a sold-out world tour and announcing the opening of another bar in Sin City? With yet another #1 hit, of course. To put a bow on the incredibly busy month of October, Luke Combs has officially ridden “Back in the Saddle” all the way to #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart just three months after its release on July 25th, moving up from the number four spot with 30.8 million impressions according to Billboard. Joining the likes of past hits such as “She Got the Best of Me,” “Beautiful Crazy,” “Forever After All” and his Twisters smash, “Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma,” “Back in the Saddle” marks Combs’ 19th career #1 on the chart since his debut with “Hurricane” in May 2017. The track, which was written by Combs along with Dan Isbell and Jonathan Singleton, marked the first release from Combs since 2024’s Fathers & Son and ultimately marked a return to the sound many fell in love with early in his career. Filled to the brim with some sultry guitar licks and rockin’ production, the “Better Together” singer boldly proclaims (and further confirms) that he’s back as a force to be reckoned with in the genre. In fact, he’d reveal to Apple Music’s Kelleigh Bannen that the release of “Back in the Saddle” itself was a reminder to everyone that he’s still the artist who can deliver exactly what fans want to hear (while also kicking some teeth in throughout the process). “It’s not an arrogance thing. It’s this mindset you need; you have to have this unwavering confidence in yourself to just keep going and to succeed. My mindset is, ‘Let me make you remember if you can’t.’ Just ’cause I don’t make enough TikToks doesn’t mean I can’t kick your teeth in, ’cause I can. That’s the mindset.” Ultimately, “Back in the Saddle” did exactly what Combs intended it to do. Not only did it serve as a prelude to his upcoming record, which is rumored to arrive early next year, but it also proved that he’s still a giant in the genre. And, of course, it never hurts to score another #1 during the process.
