Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a partnership with Turning Point USA to ensure all high schools in the Sunshine State are able to start a Club America Chapter. “With 1,200+ high school chapters and counting, Club America is the leading youth movement for freedom-loving American values. We empower bold student leaders to promote free thinking, engage in grassroots activism, and bring their beliefs to life—both on and off campus,” Club America writes on its website. “There shouldn’t be any impediments to that and certainly no discrimination. We’re not gonna allow that,” DeSantis said. “Club America is a new student-led organization designed to mobilize high schoolers to advocate for American values: freedom, free enterprise and limited government,” DeSantis continued. “Charlie started out as one of the lone voices on university campuses talking about those back in the day,” he added. Ron DeSantis discussed the state’s Civics and Debate Initiative at New College of Florida—Sainer Auditorium, saying the prize for winning in April 2026 would be named after the conservative commentator who was assassinated this year when speaking on a college campus. Describing Kirk as inspiring conservatives “going into the belly of the beast … to bring conservative ideas to these liberal campuses,” DeSantis noted that prize winners will get scholarships ranging from $10,000 for quarterfinalists to $50,000 for the winners. But even for those who don’t win the newly christened Charlie Kirk Prize, the state is rolling out what DeSantis called a “partnership” with Turning Point USA that is designed to ensure his legacy expands throughout the state. Uthmeier said in another X post that Turning Point USA creates an environment of “healthy discourse” on topics affecting the country, and Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios added that his department would be happy to help make sure “appropriate” action is taken. It’s unclear which, if any, schools have rejected the organization, although a Duval County public school board member, April Carney, appeared aside Uthmeier in his video. She said the board is working on “revamping” its student organization policy so there won’t be any issues starting a Turning Point USA chapter at county schools. Carney suggested during a board policy meeting on Wednesday that teachers have been turning down opportunities to sponsor an organization chapter. Some opponents of Turning Point USA have criticized its alleged role in the promotion of bigoted and conspiratorial theories, although the group defends itself as one whose members can exercise their freedom of speech.
