Strange But True: Brad Paisley Has Performed The National Anthem At The Two Longest Games In World Series History
Great piece of trivia right here.
Baseball and the MLB specifically have been around for a long time. So long, in fact, that this year’s matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays marks the 121st World Series in the sport’s history. Given how long the league has been around, it seems as if there’s a never-ending list of different records, stats and other facts surrounding the game that will either never be broken or accomplished again. Whether it’s Cal Ripken Jr. playing in 2,632 games straight, Barry Bonds’ record 762 career homeruns or the New York Yankees’ 27 World Series wins, there’s plenty of on-the-field stats that seem impossible to top.
Last night, during game three of the World Series, however, a fascinating piece of trivia was born involving one of country music’s very own.
If you haven’t been keeping up with the series so far, it’s been a great matchup so far. After the Blue Jays shocked the country by taking game one in a dominant 11-4 fashion. The Dodgers knotted the series up in game two, taking it 5-1. With the series tied heading into game three, the stage was set for what can only be described as an all-time classic.
Thanks to an incredible effort by the Los Angeles superstar, Shohei Ohtani, who crushed two home runs and two doubles, the Dodgers and Jays headed to extra innings tied at 5. Things remained stagnant from there, with both teams swapping zeroes for not one extra inning but an entire nine. After 6 hours, 39 minutes, a combined 19 pitchers and 18 innings, Dodgers first baseman Freddy Freeman would deliver the final blow, hitting a walk off solo homerun in the bottom of the 18th inning and giving Los Angeles a 2-1 series lead.
This marked just the second time in World Series history that a game went 18 innings (double the standard game) and the first time since Game 3 of the 2018 championship when the Dodgers also took down the Boston Red Sox 3-2 in a 7-hour, 20-minute marathon.
What’s the connection between these two marathon games, other than the Los Angeles Dodgers, you may ask? Well, that one’s pretty simple. Country music legend and 3x Grammy winner, Brad Paisley, sang the national anthem ahead of both games.
No, that’s not a typo. Over the course of the MLB’s storied 121-year history, there have only been two World Series games that have lasted 18 innings or more, and the “I’m Gonna Miss Her” singer has performed the “Star Spangled Banner” before both of them.
Don’t believe me? Check them out here.

2025 Game 3:
When you take a further look at Paisley’s history with the national anthem on the World Series stage, however, things begin to get even more interesting. As of yesterday, the West Virginia native has performed the anthem four times, once in 2017, the aforementioned 2018 marathon between the Dodgers and Red Sox, again in 2024, and finally last night.
And each and every one went into extra innings. 2017 saw the Houston Astros take down the Dodgers 7-6 in 11 innings, while 2024 saw the Dodgers take down the New York Yankees 6-3 in 10 innings.
Brad Paisley has officially sung the national anthem for:

Of course, there’s no direct correlation between the 14x ACM Award winner and World Series games going into record-setting extra innings affairs. However, it has to be one of the most fascinating and ultimately odd connections between America’s pastime and country music you’ll likely ever see.
