A Fan Is Suing Country Singer Jameson Rodgers & Coors After Getting Hit By A Beer At A Festival

Ouch… A fan is suing country singer Jameson Rodgers, who is best known for his hit “Some Girl” and his collab with Luke Combs on “Cold Beer Calling My Name,” after she claims she was hit in the head by a beer that was thrown from the stage. The lawsuit was filed by New Jersey resident Samantha Haws, who claims that she attended a festival back in 2022 at which Rodgers was performing. According to the complaint, which was obtained and reviewed by Whiskey Riff, at some point during his performance Rodgers or somebody on stage with him threw a full, unopened can of Miller Lite, “striking Plaintiff violently and without warning” and “causing severe and permanent injuries.” The suit also names Rodgers’ record label, Sony Music Entertainment, as well as the festival, the promoter, and…Molson Coors as defendants, claiming that the beer company and other defendants “directed, encouraged, allowed, permitted and otherwise failed to prevent the throwing” of the beer can. As a result, Haws claims she suffered injuries that required medical treatment and incapacitated her from pursuing her usual activities, and that getting hit by the beer can caused her “significant pain, suffering and mental anguish.” She also claims that the injuries will incapacitate her in the future and continue to cause her pain and suffering. The complaint claims that getting hit by the beer can constituted “assault and battery,” as well as recklessness, gross negligence, and a host of other legal theories, and that the defendants “conspired” to commit assault and battery against the plaintiff. As a result, Haws is asking for damages in excess of $75,000, as well as punitive damages and interest. The lawsuit was actually filed back in May of 2024, but Sony requested that they be dismissed from the case due to a lack of jurisdiction after claiming that they had no part in the festival and didn’t even have a representative present in the state at the time of the incident. But an appeals court last week denied the request by the label to be dismissed from the lawsuit, finding that the label has a business relationship with Rodgers related to live performances that was sufficient for the case against them to move forward for now. The case is currently in discovery, which is scheduled to be completed by December 28, and so far no trial date has been set. Of course we’ve also seen several instances recently of artists who have been hit by fans throwing things onto the stage. Even the usually mild-mannered Luke Combs lost his cool at a concert in Ottawa when a fan threw a cup of ice at him during a show: “Hey hard–s, where you at? Hey hard–s, I’m talking to you. Where you at? You throwing s–t at me? You ain’t so tough now are you?” @_jenniferlisa Don’t throw sh*t at Luke Combs #lukecombs #ottawa #fyp ♬ original sound – _jenniferlisa But it’s also not uncommon for artists to toss beers out to the crowd during their shows, which seems to be what happened here that landed Rodgers in court.
