Advisers to President Trump are reportedly considering Las Vegas as the host site for a potential 2026 Republican midterm convention. Trump floated the idea of a Republican midterm convention in August. “The Republican Party is doing really well. Millions of people have joined us in our quest to MAKE AMERICA, GREAT AGAIN. We won every aspect of the Presidential Election and, based on the great success we are having, are poised to WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We have raised far more money than the Democrats, and are having a great time fixing all of the Country Destroying mistakes made by the Biden Administration, and watching the USA heal and prosper. The results are incredible, a record pace!!! In that light, I am thinking of recommending a National Convention to the Republican Party, just prior to the Midterms. Political conventions are traditionally reserved for presidential election years, but Democrats briefly held midterm gatherings in the 1970s and 1980s. Republicans have never done so before. Trump’s advisers are evaluating other possible host cities, including Washington D.C. and locations in Texas, sources familiar with the discussion told The Journal. No final decision has been made. The president reportedly favors Las Vegas, a city where he has business ties through his co-ownership of the 64-story hotel bearing his name. As well, in 2024 he was the first Republican to carry Nevada in a presidential election in two decades. If Trump’s team selects Las Vegas for a midterm convention, it would be the first time the city hosts a national party political convention. “I’d heard rumblings about this. A midterm convention would be a great idea for Trump and Republicans. Las Vegas would be the perfect city to have it in. According to the Wall Street Journal, President Donald Trump has told aides that the convention will be used to highlight Republican candidates and incumbents. If held, this would be a historic first for the city. Political conventions have been hosted in different U.S. cities since the first one in December 1831.
