As you probably know by now, SNAP benefits (a.k.a. food stamps) are set to expire tomorrow due to the government shutdown. In response to a reporter’s question about people not getting food assistance from the government next month, President Trump had the perfect answer. “All the Democrats have to do is say, ‘Let’s go,’” President Trump said, “They don’t have to do anything. They don’t have to agree to anything. The reason why people aren’t going to get SNAP — and why the government is shut down in the first place — is because of the Democrats’ refusal to negotiate. As President Trump said in that clip, five more Democrats are currently needed to pass a vote to re-open the government. Fox News noted: The government shutdown has continued since Oct. 1, when Senate lawmakers failed to reach an agreement on a funding package. Republicans have pinned blame for the shutdown on Democrats for allegedly working to include healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants in the package, which Democrats have denied while arguing Republicans are to blame due to not negotiating healthcare demands. Only two Senate Democrats, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada and John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, as well as independent Angus King of Maine, who caucuses with the Democrats, have voted alongside 52 Republicans to reopen the government. The measure needs 60 votes in order to pass. As for the SNAP program, yes, there are some lazy people who just don’t want to work and abuse the system at the expense of the taxpayer. That is a separate issue in and of itself. However, there are also many Americans in unfortunate circumstances that need temporary food assistance to feed themselves and their children. Something that is very telling about the Democrat party is the fact that at this point, they’re literally prioritizing healthcare for illegal aliens over feeding hungry U.S. citizens. If they really cared and wanted to ensure that people get their food stamps next month, then Democrats could vote today to re-open the government and get it done. But, they don’t, and they won’t.
