Billy Strings, Dressed As A Werewolf, Absolutely Ripped This Cover Of Pearl Jam’s “Alive”
Billy Strings LOVES Halloween.
William Lee Apostol (A.K.A. Billy Strings) never passes up the opportunity to go all out on Halloween. He and his band love to schedule an October 31 show, and they typically do something that’s referred to as “Billyween.” That usually entails some sort of theme for all of their costumes, and this year around, it was “Meet Me at The Crypt.”
Billy and the band all went as classic Universal monsters:
-Billy Strings as The Wolf Man
-Alex Hargreaves as The Mummy
-Jarrod Walker as Frankenstein
-Royal Masat as Dracula
-Billy Failing as the Bride of Frankenstein
And it was all beautifully done, and really came together with this cover of Pearl Jam’s “Alive.” Seeing Billy Strings absolutely shred while dressed up as The Wolf Man/Werewolf was something that I didn’t know I needed
Visually, it’s stunning. Musically, it’s immaculate. In Halloween terms, it’s exactly what the holiday is all about. Halloween might be over, but this video of Billy Strings dressed up as a very believable werewolf and ripping this Pearl Jam hit should give you that last bit of Halloween spirit you were needing before the calendar moves on.
“Billy Strings tearing the roof off with a surprise Pearl Jam cover of ‘Alive.’ This version gives a whole new meaning to ‘I’m Still Alive!’ The man just doesn’t miss.”

Incredible.
What makes that cover even more special? Billy Strings’ late mother’s birthday was on Halloween, and she was a super fan of Pearl Jam (Billy often talks about how his appreciation of Pearl Jam was passed down to him by his mom). She’d certainly be proud of that “Alive” cover.
And I’m sure that all of the fans that were in attendance last night loved everything about “Billyween 2025.” He and his band seem to live for the one night of the year where they all get to dress up and put on a spooky show.
Back in 2023, Billy Strings and his band had a show on Hallow’s Eve in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was basically a hometown show (he’s from Lansing), which makes sense as to why he felt so comfortable bringing out the Halloween costumes for himself and his band.
And they went all out with the wrestling theme. There was an actual wresting ring, WWE-style announcers, a fake fight with a guitar tech, and some world-class wrestling costumes. It was billed as the “Van Andel Scramble,” and Billy Strings was dressed head-to-toe like Hulk Hogan. His bandmates went as other famous wrestlers, like “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Sting, and the Undertaker.
If you’ve never seen footage from the concert, it’s simply incredible. Seeing someone dressed up as Hulk Hogan – massive mustache and all – and shredding the guitar is as entertaining as it gets:

Yeah, safe to say that Billy Strings and his band lives for Hallow’s Eve.
But back to last night… it’s important to include Billy String’s The Wolfman’s performance of “Werewolves of London” during the special, all-out Halloween show:
“Werewolves of London”
Oh, and while they were all dressed up as classic Halloween monsters, they sang the iconic, spooky tune that perfectly captured the moment:
“Monster Mash”
