World’s Longest-Married Couple Shares Secret To 8 Decades Of Wedded Bliss
What is the secret to a long-lasting marriage? People have wondered that forever. We see couples who appear so happy and in love, even decades into their relationship. If they could bottle that kind of joy, they’d be the wealthiest people in the world. On June 4, 1942, a mere 83 years ago, Eleanor Gittens married Lyle Gittens. That’s not the incredible part. The fact that they’re still alive and still married at 107 and 108, respectively, makes them the longest-married couple in the world. LongeviQuest’s Global Validation Commission confirmed Eleanor and Lyle to be the longest married couple ever recorded. How did they do it?

Eleanor And Lyle Gittens Never Gave Up
The pair met while studying at Clark Atlanta University in 1941. Eleanor Lyle worried he would be drafted into WWII, so they married as soon as they could. They had a son, Lyle Rogers, and two daughters, Angela and Ignae. The couple lived in New York City for most of their lives. Lyle told LongeviQuest the Big Apple is the place to be.
“If you’re not living in New York City, you’re camping,” Lyle joked.
But the couple moved to Miami recently, and they are very happy. Even though Lyle stays in bed most of the time, he’s gotten handy with his smartphone.
“Even at my age, you can still gain knowledge,” he said.
LongeviQuest asked Eleanor and Lyle Gittens the question everyone wants to know. What’s their secret?
“We love each other,” Eleanor said.
Her husband, who had been married for more than 80 years, gave a very similar answer.
“I love my wife,” Lyle said.
The pair explained that marriage wasn’t hard for them. They were happy to be together.
What an incredible testament to love. May there be many more Eleanor and Lyle Gittens in this big, beautiful world.
