Muscadine Bloodline Honor Those Who Serve With Veterans Day Release Of “Peter From Picayune”
Muscadine Bloodline decided to release a song a little bit earlier than expected in honor of Veterans Day.
One of country’s best independent bands, fronted by Charlie Muncaster and Gary Stanton, has decided to utilize some of their own independence to buck against the trend of dropping new music on Fridays. To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with a Friday music drop… it’s just that this week, dropping “Peter from Picayune” on Veterans Day makes more sense considering the song’s message and focus.
On Veterans Day, we must all take a moment to think about how fortunate we are to have others fight for our freedoms. The servicemen and servicewomen that serve for the United States are true heroes and deserve to be recognized today – and every other day. That’s why Muscadine Bloodline felt as though it was only right to push the release of their military-themed song up.
If you call yourself a fan of Muscadine Bloodline, you’re likely already familiar with this unreleased track. That’s because the duo posted this video of them performing the song four years ago on their YouTube channel. Fans have been clamoring for a studio recording of ever since.

For those fans asking for a studio recording of that above track, Muscadine Bloodline decided to come through with that request with a Veterans Day drop.
It was November 10 when Muncaster and Stanton shared their plans to release “Peter from Picayune” on Veterans Day. From what it sounds like, Muscadine Bloodline couldn’t wait any longer to share the studio version of the song, and decided that the day honoring those who have served this great country would be the perfect day to drop it:
“I know we said we weren’t dropping anything till Friday but, since tomorrow is Veterans Day we just simply couldn’t wait to put this song out. We wrote this song a few years ago and it always hit us in a special place. ‘Peter From Picayune’ drops at midnight. Thank a soldier every chance you get.”

Amen to the “Thank a soldier every chance you get” part.
As for the song itself, “Peter from Picayune” tells the story of a young man from Picayune, Mississippi who enlists in the Marines and gets deployed to Kuwait (the Middle East). When he gets there, he’s assigned to the front lines, and the chorus of the somber-yet-patriotic tune goes like this:
“That boy bleeds the stars and stripes
That boy’s willing to give his life
That boy fights for you, agree or disagree
That boy wouldn’t want a welcome home parade
Wouldn’t want to talk about it anyway
He’s seen some s**t no one should ever see
Yeah he’s twice the man that most will ever be.”
The track continues on to paint a valiant picture of “Peter from Picayune” giving his all for the United States of America – as so many members of the military have done protecting our freedoms. And sadly, the subject of the song doesn’t make it out of the fight alive. It’s poignant. It’s powerful. It’s the perfect song to honor all that gave some, and some that gave all.
