Noah Hawley’s Massive Disney Deal Includes Alien: Earth Season 2

News Alien: Earth Noah Hawley’s Massive Disney Deal Includes Alien: Earth Season 2 Creator Noah Hawley will also make a lot more stuff for FX/Disney, probably. FX and Disney Entertainment Television have signed Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley to a new “overall deal” that includes a second season of his latest TV series—and as yet unknown other projects. The Hollywood Reporter notes, “Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter the multi-year deal is valued in the nine figures and will see Hawley broaden his scope to all of Disney Entertainment TV, which also includes ABC and Hulu Originals.” Nine figures, in case you don’t feel like counting zeros, is $100 million or more. For that money, Hawley will develop content only for the Disney/FX empire until the deal ends or is renewed. That’s a lot of money. And, given the companies in question, a lot of IP that could be developed. What is this man going to do with Disney’s assorted properties? In a statement, FX chairman John Landgraf said, “Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories — and his unique ability to bring them to vibrant life as a director and producer as well as writer makes him extraordinary. We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.” Hawley has been making series for FX for ages, beginning with Fargo in 2014 and continuing with Legion in 2017. Before that, he wrote for Bones and created the series The Unusuals and My Generation. Alien: Earth takes place two years before the events of Alien. Though the show’s renewal was just announced, Hawley had already been thinking about a second season, telling Variety, “the moment they fire the starting gun, I’m out of the block.” Part of the challenge of season two, though, is figuring out exactly how his story fits into the larger Alien universe. “In success, in a season two and beyond, then we really need to dig down and start to think about how these two stories are going to cohere together in the long term,” he said. Season two … and beyond! Well, just season two for now. Speaking about the first season’s cliffhanger ending, Hawley told THR, “This whole thing is a proof-of-concept experiment to see if enough people on the planet want to watch an Alien TV show to justify the expense of a second and third season of an Alien TV show. So for me, I never hedged my bets. This is not a closed-ended season. This chapter is closed. … The balance of power has shifted. These children have no idea what’s coming.” Alien: Earth’s first season starred Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El. Not all of them will return when the second season begins production next year. The eyeball monster will likely continue to triumph, though.[end-mark] The post Noah Hawley’s Massive Disney Deal Includes Alien: Earth Season 2 appeared first on Reactor.
