Morgan Wallen Says He’s Still Riding The Momentum From “Whiskey Glasses” Back In 2019: “I Will Forever Be So Grateful For That Song”

In rare company. Today,  Morgan Wallen is the featured artist on Spotify’s “Billions Club” series, which serves as a way to highlight artists who have secured the exclusive accomplishment of having a song reach the billion streams mark. Since its inception last fall, only Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd and Miley Cyrus have been featured in the series. With this, Wallen will become the first country artist and fourth artist overall to be featured. He discussed his three songs which have over one billion streams on the platform, including “Whiskey Glasses,” “I Had Some Help” feat. Post Malone, and “Last Night.” Of course, “Whiskey Glasses” was Morgan’s first big mega hit, and it was written by Ben Burgess and Kevin Kadish. Morgan first included it on his 2016 EP The Way I Talk, and it was later released as the third single from his 2018 studio album, If I Know Me. It reached #1 on Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2019, and has since been certified 9× Platinum by the RIAA as of 2023. I think most people would point to the success of that single as the real launching point for Morgan’s career in terms of putting him at the forefront of mainstream country, and it’s clearly only been up from there. Morgan says he feels like he’s still carrying the momentum from that song in terms of how his career continues to explode to this day: “‘Whiskey Glasses’ was a song that came in early, early on in my career. We kinda always felt like that song was super catchy and super clever. Everything about it just stuck with you. The momentum from that song is what we’re still carrying with us today. I will forever be so grateful for that song and the response to it.” I think that’s a perfect assessment of it, and even if you despise Morgan and his music, I feel like it’s hard to say that song isn’t catchy as heck… In terms of “Last Night,” Morgan explained that he knew it was special from the time he recorded it in the studio: “‘Last Night’ is a song that’s changed the game for me. It elevated us to a whole other level the last couple years. It was one of those songs where, when we were recording it, we just knew. Just had a feeling that song was something special.” You also see Morgan try to figure out what to do with the three plaques, which he eventually detaches from the boards their on and screws them onto the 4 wheeler like hubcaps, though he admits he wants a fourth: “The only thing I will say is, I’ve only got three hubcaps, so next time you come back unannounced, maybe bring another one of those billions plaques. Because I need another hubcap. That would be cool.” The video is pretty short, only coming in at around four minutes, but you do get a peak into Morgan’s shop which I’m assuming is somewhere on his land, which also houses some of his other big awards and certifications on the shelves. They also put the location as “God’s Country,” which is pretty slick, Spotify. Grade A trolling: Morgan is gearing up for another massive tour in 2026, as his Still The Problem tour will head to stadiums all over the country starting in April. ‘Still The Problem’ Tour Dates April 10 || Minneapolis, Minn. || U.S. Bank Stadium w/ Thomas Rhett, Gavin Adcock, Vincent Mason April 11 || Minneapolis, Minn. || U.S. Bank Stadium w/ HARDY, Gavin Adcock, Vincent Mason April 18 || Tuscaloosa, Ala. || Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium w/ Ella Langley, Vincent Mason, Zach John King May 1 || Las Vegas, Nev. || Allegiant Stadium w/ Brooks & Dunn, Gavin Adcock, Vincent Mason May 2 || Las Vegas, Nev. || Allegiant Stadium w/ Thomas Rhett, Gavin Adcock, Vincent Mason May 8 || Indianapolis, Ind. || Lucas Oil Stadium w/ Brooks & Dunn, Hudson Westbrook, Zach John King May 9 || Indianapolis, Ind. || Lucas Oil Stadium w/ Ella Langley, Flatland Cavalry, Zach John King May 15 || Gainesville, Fla. || Ben Hill Griffin Stadium w/ Thomas Rhett, Gavin Adcock, Zach John King May 16 || Gainesville, Fla. || Ben Hill Griffin Stadium w/ Ella Langley, Gavin Adcock, Zach John King May 29 || Denver, Colo. || Empower Field at Mile High w/ Brooks & Dunn, Gavin Adcock, Vincent Mason May 30 || Denver, Colo. || Empower Field at Mile High w/ Ella Langley, Gavin Adcock, Vincent Mason June 5 || Pittsburgh, Penn. || Acrisure Stadium w/ Brooks & Dunn, Gavin Adcock, Zach John King June 6 || Pittsburgh, Penn. || Acrisure Stadium w/ Ella Langley, Gavin Adcock, Zach John King June 19 || Chicago, Ill. || Soldier Field w/ Brooks & Dunn, Gavin Adcock, Zach John King June 20 || Chicago, Ill. || Soldier Field w/ Ella Langley, Gavin Adcock, Zach John King June 26 || Clemson, SC. || Clemson Memorial Stadium w/ Brooks & Dunn, Gavin Adcock, Jason Scott & The High Heat June 27 || Clemson, SC. || Clemson Memorial Stadium w/ Ella Langley, Gavin Adcock, Jason Scott & The High Heat July 17 || Baltimore, Md. || M&T Bank Stadium w/ Brooks & Dunn, Gavin Adcock, Jason Scott & The High Heat July 18 || Baltimore, Md. || M&T Bank Stadium w/ Ella Langley, Gavin Adcock, Jason Scott & The High Heat July 24 || Ann Arbor, Mich. || Michigan Stadium w/ Thomas Rhett, Hudson Westbrook, Blake Whiten July 25 || Ann Arbor, Mich. || Michigan Stadium w/ HARDY, Hudson Westbrook, Blake Whiten July 31 || Philadelphia, Penn. || Lincoln Financial Field w/ Brooks & Dunn, Hudson Westbrook, Blake Whiten August 1 || Philadelphia, Penn. || Lincoln Financial Field w/ Ella Langley, Hudson Westbrook, Blake Whiten “Whiskey Glasses”  The post Morgan Wallen Says He’s Still Riding The Momentum From “Whiskey Glasses” Back In 2019: “I Will Forever Be So Grateful For That Song” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
