Todd Snider Hospitalized With Complications From Walking Pneumonia Following Salt Lake City Arrest
The strange Todd Snider story just got another update.
It was earlier this month when country/folk artist, Todd Snider, was scheduled to play a show at Salt Lake City’s Commonwealth Room. However, just before he was set to go up on stage, the venue shared that the singer-songwriter would be unable to perform due to “injuries sustained in an incident.”
Here’s the statement from that night:
“Due to injuries sustained in an incident last night, Todd Snider will be unable to perform at the Commonwealth Room tonight (Nov. 1) in Salt Lake City. We deeply apologize for the postponement and appreciate everyone’s understanding as he gets treated. More information on a new date will be available soon.”
That was weird as is, but things got even more fuzzy when Snider’s team put out their own announcement, saying that Todd was “violently attacked” outside of his Salt Lake City hotel, and that’s where he sustained his “severe” injuries. Their announcement also canceled the remainder of his 2025 High, Lonesome and Then Some Tour for the year.
The full statement from Snider’s team reads as follows:
“We are heartbroken to announce the cancellation of the ‘High, Lonesome and Then Some’ 2025 Tour dates. Ahead of Todd Snider’s show in Salt Lake City, Todd sustained severe injuries as the victim of a violent assault outside of his hotel.
Todd will be unable to perform for an undetermined amount of time. We deeply apologize for the cancellation and any inconvenience it causes. We appreciate your understanding as Todd receives needed medical treatment. We hope to have more information on new dates soon.”
Then came some more news.
According to KSL, Snider was actually arrested at the hospital and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for disorderly conduct, making violent threats, and trespassing. The country singer allegedly went to the hospital and said he was attacked, and once he was discharged and told he could leave, he refused and became combative.
Reports say he cussed out staff, then briefly left the building before he returned to the hospital and made verbal threats to hospital staff. A KSL reporter by the name of Heidi Hatch confirmed that police were called to investigate an alleged assault of a 59-year-old man (presumably Snider), but those were the only details that were provided.
Body camera footage from the police responded to the calls showed a confused and possibly under the influence Snider (he has a known history of drug and alcohol abuse that stemmed from a debilitating back injury in the ’90s) leaving the hospital, and then attempting to get into their police car right away. He was apparently mistaken for a homeless person, and at one point in the video, he can be heard saying he’s “not homeless” and that he “has a band” and is “famous.”
That was the latest update that we had on Todd Snider’s situation, until his social media accounts shared another concerning announcement. The talented songwriter was admitted into the hospital again, only this time, it was for a previously undiagnosed case of walking pneumonia. The illness is generally considered to be mild, though it can have more serious effects on older individuals or those with pre-existing lung conditions.
From the way the announcement from Todd Snider’s friends and family reads, this sounds like it’s a more serious case. They are asking fans for prayers and to help in whatever way they can:
“Hello friends, family, and members of the Shithouse Choir. We have some difficult news to share. After Todd returned home to recover last week, he began having trouble breathing and was admitted to the hospital in Hendersonville, TN. We learned from his doctors that he had been quietly suffering from an undiagnosed case of walking pneumonia.
Our beloved brother’s condition has become more complicated, and he’s since been transferred for additional treatment. His care team and those closest to him are by his side and doing everything they can.
Right now we’re asking everyone who loves Todd to hold him in your thoughts in whatever way feels right to you. Say a prayer, light a candle, roll one up, send strength, or just keep him close in your heart. You’ve carried him through so much over the years, and he needs that from all of us now more than ever. We’ll share more when there is more to tell. Thank you for surrounding him with so much love, support, and compassion.”

Walking pneumonia can lead to very dangerous conditions like encephalitis, AKA swelling and irritation of the brain, as well as hemolytic anemia, a type of anemia caused by the breakdown of too many red blood cells. With everything that’s been going on in the past couple of weeks, this certainly seems like an additional, complicated situation for Todd Snider and his friends and family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as Snider fights what appears to be a very serious case of walking pneumonia. The post Todd Snider Hospitalized With Complications From Walking Pneumonia Following Salt Lake City Arrest first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
