Jason Aldean Sounds Off On AI Country Band Topping The Digital Sales Chart : “AI Can’t Play Live Shows”

Jason Aldean hates the idea of AI infiltrating the music industry, and recently gave a reason why he thinks artificial intelligence won’t ever have staying power. Earlier this month, Whiskey Riff reported that the top song on Billboard Country Digital Song Sales chart was a track titled “Walk My Walk,” by an artist called Breaking Rust, and why it should infuriate us all – both fans and artists alike. For those that don’t know, Breaking Rust is not only a terrible name for an artist… it’s not even a real artist at all. The song itself is actually credited to someone named Aubierre Rivaldo Taylor, who has seemingly also created another “artist” called Defbeatsai, which posts nothing but raunchy AI-generated songs. At least when it comes to the Instagram page for Defbeatsai, it’s disclosed that the songs are AI-generated (I mean, AI is in the name of the artist). When it comes to the social media for Breaking Rust, that “artist” is described as “Outlaw Country” and “Soul Music for Us.” There’s no mention that Breaking Rust’s music has been created entirely by AI, and “Walk My Walk” in particular is the one that rocketed to the top of the digital sales chart. It became one of the top stories in music this month, with more AI acts jumping up the Billboard Country Digital Songs Sales Chart, and our own Aaron Ryan even getting invited to discuss the travesty with NPR. Now, let’s remember… in the age of streaming, digital sales is is a relatively small part of the music industry, and you’re certainly not gonna hear Breaking Rust on country radio (they sound more like soulful, southern rock anyways). But Breaking Rust does have 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, so there’s plenty of reason for concern. A couple of country music artists have already spoken out about it. Charley Crockett thinks that the music industry itself could be behind the surge in AI-generated songs and artists. And it’s not a bad theory… I’m sure music industry executives would love to profit off an artist they don’t have to pay for, or pay as much for. Jason Aldean also jumped in on “Team Anti-AI.” The country music singer kept his response to the controversy short and succinct. He admitted to the fact that artificial intelligence might have the number one spot right now (once again, it’s NOT the #1 song in country music, just in digital sales), but Aldean says that there’s one thing that AI won’t ever be able to do to keep up with the rest of the industry: “An AI-artist might have the No. 1 country song right now, but AI can’t play a live show.” Livin’ this life like a country song… pic.twitter.com/aP2aFyG9Tb — Jason Aldean (@Jason_Aldean) November 17, 2025 Damn straight. Since I mentioned Crockett earlier, he also chimed in with a “lemme know when AI goes to jail,” implying that real songwriting requires and benefits from real life experiences. But as you can see, the country music artists (I can’t speak for artists of other genres, though they should be concerned too) are being quick to step in and say what differentiates real art from the AI-generated. Aldean thinks that the live music component will always be the thing that makes the difference. And speaking of Aldean, he’s decided to get a bit more personal with his upcoming 20-track album – Songs About Us – which is set to release on April 24, 2026. He’s already released “How Far Does A Goodbye Go,” along with the three songs that have been called an album preview: “Hard To Love You,” “Lovin’ On Me” and “Help You Remember.” It’s clear that every song on the album will be one that’s emotionally driven. That’s especially so with “Help You Remember,” which was written with Brittany Aldean’s father and his dementia battle in mind. There’s seems to be a whole lot of heart in the new project that’s to come, and like live shows, that’s something that artificial intelligence still can’t bring to the table. The post Jason Aldean Sounds Off On AI Country Band Topping The Digital Sales Chart : “AI Can’t Play Live Shows” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
