Luke Combs Says He Had A Hard Time Getting Artists To Sing With Him On His Upcoming Album: “They Were Like, ‘Don’t Wanna Do A Collab With You'”
Who is going to turn down Luke Combs?
With the 2025 CMA Awards taking place tomorrow at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, many of the artists have been doing tons of press leading up to the event, including Luke Combs. He’s up for Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Single of the Year for “Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma,” and he’ll also be performing.
And during an interview with Katie Neal ahead of the show tonight, Combs confirmed that a new album is coming next year, and he previously told Katie that he had cut “over 30 songs” for the record, though it’s unclear if the final album will feature all of those tuns on the tracklist.
But it sounds like some good ones might’ve gotten left on the cutting room floor, and Luke explained that he only has one collab on the record, though he might’ve wanted more, but several people turned him down.
Luke just became the highest-certified country artist of all time by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), with a combined 168 million certified units from sales and streams, surpassing Garth Brooks for the title, so it’s hard to imagine anyone would turn him down.
But either way, it will be exciting to see who the one artist is that made the cut:
“There’s one collab on this record… I’ll be honest with you, I reached out to a couple people, and they were like, ‘Don’t wanna do a collab with you.'”
They went on to talk about how there are a lot of factors that go into why someone may turn down an opportunity like that, due to scheduling conflicts and things of that nature usually, and Combs himself admitted he’s turned down “a million” collabs himself, so he understands it:
“And I’ve said no to a million myself, so it’s not… I was like, ‘Okay, I can respect it.’ And one of the songs ended up not making the record, because it needs someone else on it, and I didn’t get someone.”
But I still can’t figure out who in their right mind wouldn’t take the chance to sing with Luke Combs on his own album… he’s one of the biggest names in country music, and music in general, right now.
Something they might regret down the road, I think…
Either way, I love a good Luke Combs duet (his song with Miranda Lambert “Outrunnin’ Your Memory” still lives rent free in my head), so I’m sure the one duet that made the cut will be great.
