NBC Ignores House Dem Being Indicted for Allegedly Stealing Millions from FEMA
On Thursday, NBC’s Today refused to cover the indictment late Wednesday of Florida Democrat Congresswoman Shelia Cheriflus-McCormick for allegedly having stolen $5 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FMEA) to instead fill her campaign coffers.
CBS Mornings did the right thing and had a full story. Co-host Tony Dokoupil even had a tease in the “Eye Opener” about the congresswoman accused of stealing money to enrich herself.
Co-host Gayle King later cued up correspondent Scott MacFarlane: “The Justice Department has indicted a Florida congresswoman alleging that she stole millions from FEMA. Her name? She’s a Democrat – Shelia Cherfilus-McCormick – is accused of taking $5 million in agency funds to use for her political campaign.”

The entire segment was 93 seconds, so McFarlane immediately cut to the chase: “When Shelia Cherfilus-McCormick was running for a seat in the U.S. House in 2021, the Department of Justice says the Democrat stole $5 million in Covid-19 disaster funds to support her congressional campaign.”
Pointing out she allegedly had accomplices (who were also indicted), McFarlane said the crux of the charges stemmed from allegations that “a healthcare company she ran with her brother was overpaid in $5 million in FEMA funds for a vaccination staffing contract” in 2021.
Spoiler alert: The congresswoman and her brother allegedly never followed through with that: “They say the company received that in July 2021 and Cherfilus-McCormick used it for her campaign. The funds were routed through multiple accounts to disguise its source, they said. And a portion of the money was funneled to friends and family who donated to the campaign.”
MacFarlane closed by piling on Cherfilus-McCormick and acknowledged she’s “already under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for campaign finance violations, including misreporting the source of a contribution.”
But with Cherfilus-McCormick declaring this has been a “shame indictment,” we’ll see how this plays out (or not) in the liberal media if the trial goes forward and whether Cherfilus-McCormick tries to claim she’s the victim of dictator Trump.
ABC’s Good Morning America had a partial segment on Cherfilus-McCormick, tallying 55 seconds:
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Now to Florida Congresswoman indicted on charges of stealing $5 million in federal disaster funds and allegedly funneling the money to her campaign. Senior political correspondent Rachel Scott is on Capitol Hill with the latest. Good morning, Rachel.
RACHEL SCOTT: George, good morning to you. Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is facing up to 53 years behind bars. She was indicted after being accused of stealing $5 million in disaster relief fund and then using it to benefit her 2021 campaign. In a statement, the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, saying “using disaster relief funds for self-enrichment is a particularly selfish, cynical crime,” adding “no one is above the law.” The DOJ says the congresswoman conspired to use the overpaid funds to benefit her campaign and then tried to disguise where the money was coming from by using multiple accounts. We're told this investigation does date back to the Biden administration and this morning no word from the congresswoman or her office, George.
NBC’s Today was out to lunch entirely and instead devoted D.C. coverage in both hours to the Epstein files.
