Ole 60 Follows Up Debut Album, ‘Smokestack Town,’ With Brooding New Track “Can’t Take It With You”
Wasting no time.
Self-described as “not your father’s country band,” Ole 60 has been making waves in the alt. country scene since their debut in 2023. Since bursting onto the scene with the viral, now certified gold track, “Smoke & A Light,” the Kentucky band has continually released stellar track after stellar track, highlighted best by their sophomore 2024 EP, Songs About You.
After dropping both Three Twenty Four in 2023 and the aforementioned, Songs About You last fall, Ole 60 finally pulled the trigger on their debut album last month, Smokestack Town, an 11-track record that transported you directly into the band’s hometown of Hawesville, Kentucky.
The record ultimately showcased exactly why so many fans have gravitated to Ole 60’s sound over the past two years. Complete with their signature grunge-influenced southern rock sound, much in the vein of their contemporaries, Treaty Oak Revival, Koe Wetzel and Kolby Cooper, Smokestack Town proved to be one of the most stellar releases of the year.
Highlighted by frontman, Jacob Ty Young’s killer, raspy vocals and even more impressive songwriting, Smokestack Town ultimately served as the perfect introduction to the Kentucky band, complete with some heartbreaking acoustic ballads such as “Let You Down” and the pre-released “Really Wanna Know” and some alternative-leaning tracks, “Watch Me Bleed” and, of course, their highly-anticipated cover of Coldplay’s iconic 2000 smash hit, “Yellow.”
A wildly successful debut album, Smokestack Town proved why Ole 60 is one of the hottest bands in the growing alt. country and southern rock. And while many thought that Young and Co. were done for the year with the release of Smokestack Town, they decided to give fans one last release in the form of a brand new single, “Can’t Take It With You.”
In the Instagram caption, the band would note that they wanted to get back to their rockin’ roots showcased on earlier projects such as Three Twenty Four, calling the collection of songs on Smokestack Town “a bunch of sad sh*t.”
“Gave y’all a bunch of sad shit, here’s a rocker. ‘Can’t Take it With You’ out this Friday.”

Living up to its description, “Can’t Take It With You” is undeniably a rocker. Returning to the sultry, rocking sound present on tracks such as “Smoke & a Light,” “Dust 2 Dust” and “Brother Joe,” the song is nothing short of an alternative masterclass.
Written by Young, along with Andrew Baylis, Matthew Cole and Drew Nix, “Can’t Take It With You” centers around leaving your past (and by extension your sanity) behind while chasing a dream in the music industry. With that being said, however, unlike their lyrics-first approach to tracks present on Smokestack Town, it’s clear that Ole 60 were much more concerned about creating a brooding, atmospheric effort here sonically. Complete with a stellar guitar solo from Dustin Fuqua, “Can’t Take It With You” is one of the most dynamic songs in Ole 60’s catalog thus far.
You can argue that “Can’t Take It With You” is hardly a country song, and you may be correct. With that being said, however, when the quality of the song is this good, it’s hard to argue against it. At this point, you should know exactly what you’re getting into when spinning an Ole 60 track, and today’s newest release once again showcases all of their strengths perfectly.
