The Internet Is Obsessed With Rising Country Star, Avery Anna’s, Cover Of Ozzy Osborne’s ‘No More Tears’
49 Winchester might have some competition.
As the new generation of tomorrow’s country stars continue to be discovered seemingly by the minute on social media, there have been quite a few names that have broken through in a big way over the past year. In particular, youth seems to be one of the biggest factors at play with artists such as Ty Myers, Hudson Westbrook, Sam Barber, Waylon Wyatt all breaking out in their late teens and early 20s.
Another young artist that has certainly caught the attention of many on social media lately is Avery Anna.
In case you’re not familiar with the 21-year-old singer/songwriter, like many of the aforementioned artists, she got her start on TikTok, frequently going viral by posting both covers and original songs while sitting in her sitting in her bathtub fully clothed back in 2020 and 2021, garnering millions of views and hundreds of thousands of likes per post. Flashforward to today, and she’s been on a roll.
For many country fans, they’ll be familiar with her apperances alongside Barber on the pair’s breakout hit from last year, “Indigo,” which not only received a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) but also scored the duo their first-ever placement on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #40.
On her own, however, Anna has been nothing short of a force to be reckoned with. Boasting two million followers on TikTok alone, along with a staggering nine million monthly listeners on Spotify, the “Narcissist” singer has undoubtedly been one of the buzziest young stars in today’s social media-focused, modern country scene.
Riding the highs of the aforementioned collaboration with Sam Barber and the success of her 2024 debut album, Breakup Over Breakfast, the Arizona native followed it up with another rock-solid, pop-country-inspired project on her sophomore effort, let go letters, which continued her focus on themes of mental health and vulnerability throughout.
Recently, however, Anna has been turning heads with her recent cover of none other than the late, great Ozzy Osborne’s classic 1991 metal anthem, “No More Tears.”
Of course, “No More Tears” is one of the staples of Osborne’s legendary discography. Released as the lead single/title track of his 1991 solo record, the track originally peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. Recently, however, it would reappear on the Billboard’s new US Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart as a result of the “Crazy Train” singer’s tragic death this past July.
As for Anna’s cover of the legendary metal track, it’s nothing short of shocking. Given the fact that the “Mr. Predictable” singer has made a name for herself with soft, introspective pop-country tracks focused on themes of lost love and mental health, many (myself included) were quite frankly blown away by the vocal performance she gives here on “No More Tears.” Hitting some impressive notes complete with a signature metal rasp, Anna delivered a knock-out performance.
And it seems like both fellow artists and fans can’t get enough of it. So far, Anna has released three separate TikToks containing footage from her recent performance of the cover, and each one of them has gone viral with the most popular clip, posted yesterday afternoon, garnering over 400,000 views, 78,600 likes and 300 comments in just 22 hours as of writing.
The comments themselves, as shocking as it may seem given that it’s a) the internet and b) a cover of a beloved song from a late artist, were nothing short of glowing.
