Randy Houser Celebrates The Good Times With New Twanger Inspired By Post Malone, “Back In The Bottle”

We’ve all had those nights. Undoubtedly having one of the most interesting career paths we’ve seen in recent memory, Randy Houser has lived a few different lives in the music industry. As we know, the Mississippi native quickly fell down the incredibly lucrative bro-country rabbit hole in the 2010s, scoring massive hits with the likes of “How Country Feels,” “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight,” “We Went” and “Goodbye Kiss.” With that being said, however, it was always more than apparent that Houser had all the talent in the world to deliver some captivating songs and stories. And that was fully realized back in 2019 with the release of Magnolia, a wholly unique offering from the “Like a Cowboy” singer that showcased not only his stellar, powerful vocals but also his underrated songwriting ability. Ultimately, Magnolia was one of those albums that truly felt like a career-definer from Houser. Gone were the days of the cliché bro-country anthems, and in their place stood some truly meaningful, lasting tracks such as his introspective career-reflection on “No Stone Unturned” as well as “Evangeline” and the jazzy “No Good Place to Cry.” Since then, he’s continued to lose the shackles of commercial country, delivering another rock solid album on 2022’s Note To Self. Recently, he released a deluxe edition of the album this past February, calling on the likes of Miranda Lambert, Justin Moore, Riley Green and Cody Johnson as guest features on multiple pre-released tracks along with a few new songs. Additionally, he teamed up with the likes of 49 Winchester’s Isaac Gibson, Ashley McBryde and Kendell Marvell back in May on “Bad Bad Boys.” After laying low throughout most of the summer and fall release-wise, Houser is back with a brand-new single, “Back in the Bottle.” View this post on Instagram Discussing the track, Houser would note that the “Back In The Bottle” was inspired by a two-day bender with none other than one of the biggest partiers in the genre today, Post Malone. “When I had the idea for ‘Back In The Bottle,’ not to name drop, but I was hanging out with Post Malone, and we went to the studio. Didn’t even leave to get started ‘til probably midnight. We did two nights like that, and we were having a great time, writing and drinking.” As Houser recalls, the back-to-back nights were so much fun, it prompted him to come up with the hook of the song. “So that gave me the idea: ‘If I could put last night back in the bottle, I’d pull last night back down and drink it again,’ And we’ve all had those nights. How many times have we hair-of-the-dogged it? Sometimes you just gotta keep rocking and keep having fun.” What results is nothing short of a certified honky tonk banger, feeling equally as fun as it is relatable. I don’t think its a stretch to say we’ve all had those nights that we regret in the morning yet simultaneously would do anything to relive again, and Houser captures it hilariously here in the independently-written track. Wasting no time in the first verse, Houser describes the aftermath of the night before, complete with a hangover and missing debit card. “I got three missed calls from a number I don’t know My debit card got left out in the cold I got a Tootsie’s cup laying by my bed A steady bang banging in my head Hell, if I’da stayed home I wouldn’t be moving so slow” This leads directly into the anthemic chorus where Houser delivers the extremely clever hook, wishing he could put the previous night back in the bottle (along with all the pain that comes with the morning after) just so he can relive the rowdy night one last time. “But if I could put last night back in the bottle Hell, I wouldn’t be in half the shape I’m in Yeah, if I could put last night back in the bottle, Lord I’d pull last night back down and drink it again” Ultimately, “Back In The Bottle” is everything a drinking song should be. Twangy production coupled with a killer hook on the chorus make this a rock-solid release that deserves a second listen. If you’re a fan of Houser, don’t skip this one.
