Pentagon Announces Its Investigating Democrat Senator Mark Kelly
This was much needed.
The Pentagon has announced it’s investigating one of the six Democrat senators who posted a video of themselves calling for military members to not follow President trump’s orders because they are “illegal.”
In the announcement the Pentagon announced it is investigating Democrat Senator Mark Kelly over his recent comment in the “seditious” video.
The Associated Press provided further details on the Pentagon’s investigation:
The Pentagon announced Monday it is investigating Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona over possible breaches of military law after the former Navy pilot joined a handful of other lawmakers in a video that called for troops to defy “illegal orders.”
The Pentagon’s statement, posted on social media, cited a federal law that allows retired service members to be recalled to active duty on orders of the defense secretary for possible court martial or other measures.
It is extraordinary for the Pentagon, which until President Donald Trump’s second term had usually gone out of its way to act and appear apolitical, to directly threaten a sitting member of Congress with investigation. It comes after Trump ramped up the rhetoric by accusing the lawmakers of sedition “punishable by DEATH” in a social media post days after the video was released last week.
In its statement Monday, the Pentagon suggested that Kelly’s statements in the video interfered with the “loyalty, morale, or good order and discipline of the armed forces” by citing the federal law that prohibits such actions.
The White House has also commented:
“All servicemembers are reminded that they have a legal obligation under the UCMJ [Uniform Code of Military Justice] to obey lawful orders and that orders are presumed to be lawful.” – @DeptofWar pic.twitter.com/vaKFEo4i2q

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on his personal X account also called out Senator Kelly:
So “Captain” Kelly, not only did your sedition video intentionally undercut good order & discipline…but you can’t even display your uniform correctly.
Your medals are out of order & rows reversed. When/if you are recalled to active duty, it’ll start with a uniform inspection. https://t.co/rsSyrPcmbg

Newsweek provided further context on Hegseth’s remarks on X:
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth mocked Democratic Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona over a picture of his uniform, a day after the Department of Defense said it was investigating unspecified, serious misconduct allegations against the retired Navy captain.
Kelly was one of several Democratic lawmakers who released a video telling service members that they did not have to follow illegal orders. President Donald Trump called the video “seditious” and said it was an offense “punishable by death” in a post on his Truth Social platform. Democrats said his rhetoric triggered violent threats.
Responding to news of the Pentagon’s investigation into him, Kelly shared an image of his uniform and medals on X. In the post, he discussed his military career and said he wouldn’t be intimidated: “I’ve given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution.”
Hegseth hit back on Tuesday morning, writing on X: “So ‘Captain’ Kelly, not only did your sedition video intentionally undercut good order & discipline…but you can’t even display your uniform correctly. Your medals are out of order & rows reversed. When/if you are recalled to active duty, it’ll start with a uniform inspection.”
