For Lorna Luft, the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz has always held a special place in her heart. The daughter of Judy Garland, Luft recalls watching the film on television for the first time in 1956. At that moment, color TVs were rare, and her mother wasn’t home. So, she, her brother, and her sister experienced the movie under the care of a well-meaning nanny. Those memories stayed with Luft for decades. According to People, she laughed while recalling how frightened they became during the flying monkeys scene. Later, Garland called from New York, concerned about her children’s reaction. She promised never to let them watch the film alone again.
