This is a developing story. A mass shooting just took place in Stockton, CA. It’s being reported that the shooter opened fire on a children’s birthday party before fleeing. Around fourteen victims were shot, with several being transported to the hospital. Tragically, at least four people were killed. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is confirming several victims rushed to hospitals, condition unknown. Police are actively investigating and asking for any information locals may have on the gunman. The suspect remains at large. Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, told reporters in a briefing that the shooting occurred around 6 p.m. Pacific Time at a banquet hall along the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue. She said the victims ranged in age from juveniles to adults… No arrests have been made, Brent said. And there were no immediate details about the suspect or a possible motive, though Brent said early indications suggest it was targeted. The circumstances that led up to the shooting were unclear. As Vice Mayor of Stockton — and as someone who grew up in this community — I am devastated and angry to learn about the mass shooting at a child’s birthday party. An ice cream shop should never be a place where families fear for their lives. Violence touched my life as a young person, and seeing our own children, parents, and neighbors go through this shakes me deeply. Stockton is my home. These are our families. This is our community. I am in contact with staff and public safety officials to understand exactly what happened, and I will be pushing for answers. Our community deserves to know the truth, and the families impacted deserve justice and every resource available to support them.
