Sam Barber Teases Heartbreaking New Track, “Yellow Diamond”

Back with another heartbreaker. Since breaking out with his viral hit, “Straight and Narrow,” back in 2022, Sam Barber has been one of the premier artists in the ever-growing country-folk scene over the past few years. With one of the most unique, raspy voices in the genre, a knack for penning some moving, self-critical tracks and a style that sounds like a mix between early Zach Bryan and folk bands like The Lumineers, Barber has continued to impress from release to release. After dropping his debut album, Restless Mind, last year, which contained the certified-platinum smash hit with Avery Anna, “Indigo,” Barber followed that up with another stellar EP back in the summer, Music for the Soul. Released on August 1st, the EP contained seven songs, including the buzzy, pre-released track, “Man of the Year,” which has already racked up an impressive 43 million streams on Spotify alone. Recently, Barber has set his sights on 2026 back in October, not only plotting the extensive The American Route Tour, featuring Waylon Wyatt, Michael Marcagi and more but also signaling to fans that his highly-anticipated sophomore album is officially in the works and coming “early in the new year.” View this post on Instagram Since then, he’s also caught fire online once again with frequent collaborator and hot up-and-comer, Avery Anna, with the debut of their powerful new, unreleased song, “Fear In God,” which has been going viral on TikTok lately after multiple recent live performances. Not to be outdone, yesterday, Barber took to Instagram to share yet another brand new, unreleased track titled “Yellow Diamonds,” and it looks to be some of his best work to date lyrically. View this post on Instagram Though we only received what seems to be a few of the verses from the track, it’s hard to argue that this isn’t some of the most moving poetry we’ve received from the “Indigo” singer so far. Immediately setting the scene of an addict daughter haunted by the sins of her broken father, Barber lays down some beautifully-penned lines ranging from sharp imagery of rusted nails, wedding veils and dirty laundry to invoke a sense of apathy and longing while simultaneously bringing the central theme of addiction through with lines such as “Watch the world through tainted eyes” and “We’ve got it all but still need more.” Yellow diamonds framed by silence Silhouette of rich men lying Rail-thin daughter, broken father Blames it all on the needle that robbed her Coffee mugs and dirty laundry Open up but don’t be sorry Watch the world through tainted eyes And tell me that we’re not dead inside Rusted nails and wedding veils From disconnect to everything’s well Wooden doors and concrete floors We’ve got it all but still need more Fans would quickly take to the comments to praise Barber for the great lyricism on the track and plead for it to be released soon, with one comment saying what everyone was thinking, calling it “heartbreaking, raw and beautiful.” “Another loss for the deaf” “He never misses” “Generational” “Best country artist out right now” “Heartbreaking, raw and beautiful” “Release this gem!” As of now, “Yellow Diamonds” has no release date. However, it’s safe to assume it will be featured on Barber’s upcoming sophomore album slated to release early next year.
