This is a class act move by President Trump. On Thursday, President Trump wrote a proclamation ordering the White House and all military buildings and bases to lower the U.S. flag half-staff to honor Specialist Sarah Beckstrom. Beckstrom was tragically shot and killed in Washington D.C. while on duty with the West Virginia National Guard. The White House released President Trump’s full proclamation: As a mark of respect for the memory of Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, West Virginia Army National Guard, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, December 4, 2025. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations. Specialist Beckstrom died on Thanksgiving Day. Staff Sergeant Wolfe remains hospitalized and is showing signs of improvement, officials said. The resolution recognizes the service and sacrifice of Beckstrom and Wolfe and signals congressional support for their families and the West Virginia National Guard community. Miller and Moore thanked Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Jim Justice for preparing companion Senate language. As a mother and grandmother, I grieve with Sarah’s family as her life was taken far too soon. We honor their selfless service and stand united against the evil that has struck our nation.”
