Leave NATO

Yeah! Let’s get out of NATO! Representative Thomas Massie introduced a bill to withdraw the U.S. from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. “NATO is a Cold War relic,” he said. Fact check: True! Massie continued: “We should withdraw from NATO and use that money to defend our own country, not socialist countries. NATO was created to counter the Soviet Union, which collapsed over thirty years ago. Since then, U.S. participation has cost taxpayers trillions of dollars and continues to risk U.S. involvement in foreign wars. Our Constitution did not authorize permanent foreign entanglements, something our Founding Fathers explicitly warned us against. America should not be the world’s security blanket—especially when wealthy countries refuse to pay for their own defense.” Fact check: True! And here’s the part no one in mainstream media will say out loud: After the Soviet Union collapsed, Russia explored joining NATO and was blackballed by the U.S. and Europe. Instead of building a post-Cold War peace framework, NATO expanded right up to Russia’s borders and provoked a war using Ukraine. This is just one of many stains on NATO’s resume. Another is the legacy of Operation Gladio, NATO’s terrorist army that has been credibly accused of false-flag tactics. We covered this extensively on Redacted. Gladio isn’t some internet rumor; declassified material and parliamentary investigations in Italy, Belgium, and Switzerland all confirmed networks that operated far outside democratic oversight. NATO is not only costly and strategically outdated, it is also NOT the good guys. As long as the U.S. bankrolls it, we are complicit in its behavior. Take away American money and muscle and NATO collapses overnight, and European leaders would suddenly have to pay for their own armies instead of talking tough on Washington’s dime. This is an awesome bill but will it go anywhere? Well… Congress hasn’t shown the backbone to unwind legacy military commitments but if anyone can drag an unpopular idea into the public consciousness and make people rethink it, it’s Thomas Massie.
