But they’ve released a short teaser that does one very cool thing, at least: It introduces Miya Cech as Toph, the prodigal Earthbender who helps train Aang (Gordon Cormier) in her element. Being petite, young, and blind, Toph is constantly underestimated, but her considerable power is on display in this teaser, which shows her competing in an underground Earthbender fight club, wrapping stone around her arm and experiencing the world through vibrations. She gets all the dialogue here, saying in voiceover, “Everything is vibrating. All around us, the world is turning. There’s a secret life beneath us. We’re all connected through the earth.” Netflix released an audio descriptive version of the teaser along with the usual one. The rest of the characters have clearly grown up a bit since the first season, in which they saved the Northern Water Tribe from the invading Fire Nation. The gang—Aang, Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley)—have a new mission: convincing the Earth King to join their fight against the Fire Lord (Daniel Dae Kim). Netflix is being coy about what else happens in the upcoming season, but the teaser also shows Azula (Elizabeth Yu) bending lightning and Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) training with Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee). And, of course, we get to see Momo and Appa (whose season-two storyline from the animated series may be a bit shortened here).
