Rob also took part in other projects you might not even realize he played an essential role in. He directed When Harry Met Sally and This is Spinal Tap. But for Ron Howard, Rob Reiner helped expand his career on Happy Days. “Our careers and lives intersected often over the decades from Rob writing the pilot script for Happy Days and then as we each shifted from acting careers into directing and producing. He proved to be a superlative filmmaker, a supportive colleague and at all times a dedicated citizen. Rob will be missed on so many levels. My heart goes out to his family and his many close friends,” Ron shared on X. Ron Howard’s tribute to Rob Reiner touched many Happy Days fans’ hearts. “I had no idea he wrote the pilot for Happy Days. Rob really shaped my generation with laughter,” someone wrote. “I didn’t know he wrote the pilot script for Happy Days (loved the show!). He was a terrific director and film maker. I remember him fondly from the scenes I was in on “The Sure Thing”. He was kind to everyone and a total pro. I think it was only his 2nd film as a director. Such a tragic end for him and his wife,” another person shared. It’s lovely that Ron Howard found light in such a horrific tragedy with a loving tribute to his dear friend, Rob Reiner.
