Regulars Surprise Beloved Waitress with $27,000 After Husband’s Sudden Death
Tammy Hammonds began waiting tables at Skyline Chili in Cincinnati, Ohio, 30 years ago. During that time, she served a lot of chili and built lasting friendships with her customers. Tammy shared her life story with some of those regulars, and their bond goes far beyond a bowl of chili. When her husband, Randy Hammonds, died recently, she received an unexpected blessing from some of her long-time customers turned friends. Kyle Zimmerman and Sam Bruchell have been dining at Skyline for years, and when they learned of Randy’s death, they knew they had to help. Tammy never could have dreamed of what would come next.
Kyle Zimmerman and Sam Bruchell Helped Raise Thousands for Tammy Hammonds
Kyle Zimmerman and Sam Bruchell began dining at Skyline in college and ate there several times a week. Even after moving away to New York and Chicago, the men maintained a relationship with Tammy Hammond.
“Skyline is dear to all of our hearts in Cincinnati. It’s nostalgic and brings you back. Beyond that, it’s the people here; everyone treats each other like family. We’re lucky to be from such a special place,” Sam told WXIX.
When they heard about Randy’s death, they knew they had to do something. Kyle told the news station he wanted to help Tammy and honor her late husband.
“Tammy’s husband was a wounded war veteran and handled hazard waste on behalf of the U.S. government. That’s what bolstered the family financially,” Kyle said.
In just a matter of hours, the men raised thousands for Tammy Hammonds. They presented her with $27,000 on December 21.
“I knew the impact it was having on me by being a part of their lives and watching them grow. I would’ve never thought they would love me this much,” she told WXIX.
Tammy Hammonds had a bit of sage advice for others after receiving this incredible gift of love.
“Show love each and every day, be happy with what you’re doing. Sometimes it may not seem important. I can see how important it was,” she said.
