Darius Rucker Dropped In For An Impromptu Performance At Nashville Airport Bar
Darius Rucker surprised some BNA flyers ahead of the holidays.
If you’ve ever been to the Nashville Airport, you know that country music permeates throughout the gates. Local artists are set up in restaurants playing, and country music stars come over the intercom system to welcome you to Music City.
As soon as you touch down in Nashville, you are welcomed in with a flurry of country music (and depending on the time of the day, horrible, never-ending traffic). And on occasion, you may even hear one of country music’s biggest stars – in person – at BNA.
Darius Rucker recently dropped in for a low-key, surprise performance at the Acme Feed and Seed’s airport location, and those that were there, and slowed down enough to realize that it was him, got to hear the famous artist play a cover of a Miranda Lambert song.
The 59-year-old artist and former frontman of Hootie & The Blowfish (to be clear, he isn’t Hootie) has had a lot of new things happening in his life as of late. He hard launched a relationship with a younger woman named Emily Deahl, and they have since gotten engaged.
Then came the exciting news that Darius Rucker would be forming a new supergroup called Howl Owl Howl. The rock group – which is the second band that Darius has been in with an owl-adjacent name – consists of Rucker, R.E.M. co-founder and bassist Mike Mills and The Black Crowes co-founder and drummer Steve Gorman.
And in the midst of all of that, Rucker apparently finds the time whenever he can (or wants to) to treat fans to performances in the last place they’d expect to hear him. According to Acme Feed and Seed, a local artist by the name of Sarina-Joi was playing at the restaurant in the airport when she was approached by Rucker, who asked to borrow her guitar and play a tune.
Sarina-Joi obliged (how could you not?) and Darius decided to play Miranda Lambert’s 2007 hit “More Like Her.” With his baseball cap pulled down a little low, and his glasses on, Rucker played the song without much fanfare. In a way, I’m sure it was nice for him to sit down and play a song basically anonymously. Maybe it took him back to his early days.
And it definitely was a moment the local artist and those that were there at the Nashville Airport (and noticed) won’t ever forget:
“Acme’s airport location had a special guest during local talent Sarina-Joi’s set, even borrowing her blue guitar. Such a Nashville moment, and a great way to kick off the holiday week.”
