President Trump Confirms Future Meeting With Gustavo Petro, Here’s When
President Trump on Friday said he would meet with Colombian President Gustavo Petro during the first week of February.
“I look forward to having a meeting with Gustavo Petro, the President of Colombia, in the White House, during the first week of February. I am sure it will work out very well for Colombia, and the U.S.A., but, cocaine and other drugs must be STOPPED from coming into the United States,” Trump said.
Trump’s confirmation of the meeting follows a phone call with Petro earlier this week.

NBC News has more:
The Colombians asked members of Congress to help set up a phone call between Petro and Trump, which the Colombian government had wanted for some time. The official said the mediation paid off, with the two leaders speaking by phone on Wednesday, shortly before Petro was set to lead nationwide demonstrations in support of the country’s sovereignty.
The Trump-Petro call resulted in a dramatic de-escalation in tensions between the two men, with both leaders praising each other and announcing plans for a meeting in Washington next month.
Colombia’s Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez told NBC News on Thursday that he planned to travel to Washington along with Petro to meet with American officials — and that he no longer had concerns the U.S. would launch a military attack on his country.
“I trust in the word of the president of the United States,” he said, adding that the conversation had been a crucial “icebreaker” for the two leaders and countries.
Something Trump said on the call made a particular impression on Petro, the Colombian leader said in a Thursday interview with NBC News partner Telemundo.
“I know you have been surrounded by lies like I have,” Petro said Trump had told him during a 55-minute telephone conversation.
Trump previously said Petro should “watch his a**” following the military operation that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

“He has cocaine mills. He has factories where he makes cocaine. And yeah, I think I stick by first statement,” Trump said.
“He’s making cocaine, and they’re sending it into the United States. So, he does have to watch his a**,” he added.

Axios shared further:
Petro told supporters in Bogota on Wednesday that he initiated the call that went on for more than an hour in order to decrease tensions with the U.S. and restore dialogue.
"In the conversation ... I made a request: that direct communications between the foreign ministries and the presidents be reestablished. If there is no dialogue, there will be war," Petro said, noting the call was respectful.
Petro said he explained to Trump what his government has been doing against drug trafficking and presented him with data. He noted that he discussed with Trump the situation in Venezuela.
