Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Open Up About Their 40 Year Friendship
Having a true best friend is a blessing. It’s even more special if you and that person grew up together and truly know everything about each other’s lives. Those types of friendships are rare, particularly in Hollywood. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s mothers introduced them in the early 1980s, when they were just little kids. That meeting formed a friendship that would span more than four decades and earn the pair an Academy Award. That in and of itself is like something out of a movie.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Understand How Rare Their Friendship Is
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck interviewed each other for Netflix ahead of their new film The Rip, which drops on January 16. The pair laughed about being “weird” kids who shared a bank account. Ben said that their friendship has lasted because there’s no big rivalry between them. Matt added that when the pair started their career, they were met with constant rejection and humiliation, so they “really rooted hard for each other.”
“The weird thing about us is that I don’t remember either of us really contemplating other careers,” Ben recalled. “Not because of some like arrogance thinking, ‘Oh, it’s gonna be successful.’ It just was like I felt like we kind of approached it like this is what we’re gonna do.”
Matt agreed, adding that as long as they could pair their bills, they’d be happy.
Fans loved listening to Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reminisce about their friendship, career, and a truly great life. One person pointed out something sweet.
“Ben hasn’t had marriages work but his “marriage” to Matt has ALWAYS been steady and secure. A good friendship goes a long way,” they wrote.
We love this friendship for both of them and what it’s given to all of us.
