Key message: Avoid driving if you can — full stop. If you must go, here’s the no-nonsense checklist: • Check your vehicle (tires, battery, fluids, wipers, lights, defroster) • Plan your route & timing (avoid rush hour, know alternate paths, check TxDOT/511) • Tell someone your route & expected arrival time • Pack the right stranded kit (blankets, water, snacks, flashlight, charger, shovel, kitty litter/sand for traction, warm clothes, first aid, medications) This isn’t the apocalypse — it’s a natural event that happens every few years.
