Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord Trailer Teases a Darkly Dramatic Time

News Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord Trailer Teases a Darkly Dramatic Time Maul is back, and animated! (Literally!) (I’m sorry.) By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on January 22, 2026 Courtesy of Lucasfilm Comment 0 Share New Share Courtesy of Lucasfilm Today Disney+ released a trailer for the animated series Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord. The title gives you a clue what it’s about: It centers on Maul and his efforts to regain power after getting on the Emperor’s bad side (to put it mildly).   Here’s the official synopsis for the series: Set after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this pulpy adventure finds Maul plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire. There, he crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who could be the apprentice he is seeking to aid him in his relentless pursuit for revenge. The animation shown here is dramatic, dark, and compellingly watchable. Looks like it’s time for a Star Wars: The Clone Wars rewatch to get a refresher before the series premieres. The show comes from Dave Filoni and Matt Michnovetz, with Brad Rau as supervising director. It features the voice talent of Sam Witwer as Maul, Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Oscar-nominee Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki, Chris Diamantopoulos as Looti Vario, Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson, Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, David C. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Steve Blum as Icarus. The two-episode premiere of Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord streams on Disney+ on April 6, 2026. Two episodes will premiere each week, with the final two airing on May the 4th. Check out the trailer below.
