BREAKING: Greenland’s Capital Hit With Widespread Blackout
This sure is interesting timing.
Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, has been hit by a widespread power outage.
The blackout began on Saturday night and has been ongoing for several hours.
BNO reported what officials believe caused the blackout:
A citywide power outage was reported in Greenland’s capital Nuuk after an incident disrupted electricity supply, according to officials and local media reports.
“Due to an accident, there is a city-wide power outage,” utility company Nukissiorfiit said in a social media post on Saturday night. “Nukissiorfiit is currently working to restore power using emergency generators.”
Greenland Police said the power outage may affect police phone lines, adding that residents can go to their local police station to seek assistance if mobile service is also down.
Greenland newspaper Sermitsiaq reported that parts of Nuuk had been without electricity for about half an hour at the time of publication, noting that authorities earlier this week issued guidance advising residents how to cope for up to five days in the event of a prolonged power outage.

Yahoo News provided the latest update on the U.S. plans for Greenland:
President Donald Trump and NATO temporarily defused a crisis over his attempt to take over Greenland, but details over the U.S. role on the semiautonomous Danish island could reignite tensions.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump said the U.S. will gain sovereignty over parts of Greenland that host American military bases—and take ownership of that land.
“Yeah,” he told the Post. “We’ll have everything we want. We have some interesting talks going on.”
But one of the proposals under discussion wouldn’t entail U.S. ownership of Greenlandic territory while still allowing sovereignty over bases, such as the Pituffik Space Base, the report added.
Such an arrangement would mimic the sovereignty that the U.K. has over its military bases on Cyprus, a source told the Post.
The remarks came days after Trump pulled back his threat to impose tariffs on several NATO countries unless they supported his bid to control all of Greenland.
Following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, he agreed to a “framework” on a future security deal. Details were sparse, but Trump indicated it would grant the U.S. “total access” to Greenland and would involve his “Golden Dome” missile-defense system.
