Benjamin Tod Announces New Record With Introspective Title Track “Vengeance & Grace (Alone)”
There’s nobody out there quite like Benjamin Tod.
A crusader for country music, Tod is one of the relatively few outspoken artists out there doing everything in his power to maintain the genre’s tradition. Doing so especially through the reverence with which he approaches the craft of songwriting, his lyricism features extraordinary attention to detail. More often than not, the content revolves around the difficult life he has lived with an emphasis on the prospect of redemption. This is especially true nowadays, as Tod prioritizes family and sobriety over his past of addiction and vagrancy.
Still, it is important to Tod that he not forget the journey that brought him to where he is today, even though his lifestyle has changed drastically since those teenage and young adult years. This sentiment brings us to the announcement of his next record and the release of its title track “Vengeance and Grace (Alone).”
An incredibly introspective look into an ongoing internal battle, “Vengeance and Grace (Alone)” explores the dichotomous nature of these two forces as they clash within Tod’s mind. Tod expounded upon what the new song means to him:
“I’d like to believe justice is woven somewhere between the two, which is the usual goal, whether it’s a reward or a punishment. There’s always a circulation in my life trying to balance these, and every verse in the song transitions from one to the other. If I really listen to every movement and line, it can still make me emotional.”
Without further ado, check out the new single “Vengeance and Grace (Alone)” below.
“When I’m gone I may gamble with my demons
I’ll bet it all for the trial I am seeking
Like a child softly pleading
That the violence was needed after all
Torn by vengeance and grace
I learned the hard way”
Tod’s 12th studio album overall and fifth without his former band Lost Dog Street Band, Vengeance and Grace features two versions of 10 killer original songs. The “(Alone)” versions, like the latest single, are stripped back and acoustic, while the other version of each song will include his full band. This bifurcated approach is meant to drive home the notion of these dueling themes, and adds a unique element to what will surely be another special project from Benjamin Tod.
Here is the full tracklist, along with both versions of the two other singles he has released thus far in “My Pride” and “Goner.”
