Recently, unprecedented ice, snow, and cold temperatures created unusual conditions across much of the United States. Many found themselves totally unprepared for severe weather and decided staying home was the safest option. Of course, that’s not possible for many, including our first responders. These men and women quite literally put their lives on the line to save others. A group from the Cuba Fire Protection District in Missouri didn’t just keep the people in their community safe. They also checked in on animals. They didn’t expect to see two horses in an icy pond, but they knew they had to help. The Cuba Fire Protection District Shared Photos of the Rescue on Facebook These poor horses had no way to ask for help or to say thank you, but seeing them helpless in the water was enough for the Cuba Fire Protection District to get to work. “This morning Cuba Fire was requested to assist with getting 2 horses out of a pond after they had walked out on the snow covered ice. Personnel were able to break a path and lead the horses out of the water. The horses were checked by a local veterinarian and found the horses to be in good condition. Great job by fire personnel in cold conditions and a huge thanks to Veterinarian KC Swope for responding and providing assistance.The horses were taken to a dry barn and were doing well,” it wrote on Facebook. “Great job to the men and women who are always ready to do what they do best!! Thank You!!” A comment reads. “Great job, Cuba Fire Department and Veterinarian KC Scope!!” Another person wrote Those are two very lucky horses.
