College Basketball Coach Handcuffed Following Team’s Game
Police escorted Tuskegee University men’s head basketball coach Benjy Taylor off the court in handcuffs following the team’s loss at Morehouse College on Saturday.
A video posted online shows Taylor being led off the court in handcuffs.
“I am at a loss for words and I am upset about how I was violated and treated today. For my players, my family and people of Tuskegee to witness that is heartbreaking for me. I was simply trying to get the football team out of the handshake line as they were following right behind me and the team yelling obscenities! It was a very dangerous situation,” he said in a statement, according to basketball analyst Jeff Goodman.

Fox News shared further info:
It was reported that the Morehouse football players were entering the handshake line between the two basketball games.
Furthermore, Tuskegee athletic director Reginald Ruffin said that his head coach was trying to ensure safety protocols were being met, especially considering the rivalry between the two schools.
“You got to intermingle football players shaking hands with the team,” Ruffin said. “You don’t do that…that’s a security breach.”
Ruffin added that Taylor asked the officer, “Can you please remove them from the line,” but it was met with a hostile response from the officer.
According to USA TODAY, officers claimed Taylor was “very aggressive.”
Ruffin “refuted” the claims, the outlet reported.
National civil rights attorney Harry Daniels later announced that Taylor had hired him to pursue a possible civil lawsuit.
“Benjy Taylor said that a group of football players from Morehead had been vocal all game from their seats next to the Tuskegee bench. He went to the end of the handshake line after the game and some of the football players were behind him the line,” Goodman said.
“He tried to diffuse the situation, asked a police officer for help to remove the football players. The next thing he knew he was being handcuffed. He said that the handcuffs were removed quickly by the police when he left the court. Here’s some more video,” he continued.

AL.com noted:
The attorneys say they are currently investigating “all legal avenues,” including a possible civil lawsuit.
“It would be bad for a police officer to treat anyone like this,” Daniels said in the release.
“But to do it to a man like Coach Taylor, a highly respected professional and role model, to put him in handcuffs, humiliate him and treat him like a criminal in front of his team, his family and a gym full of fans is absolutely disgusting and they need to be held accountable.”
“Coach Taylor is a good man who did the right thing to protect his team and deescalate a dangerous situation and this officer put him in chains for his troubles,” Daniels continued.
