Charles Wesley Godwin Drops Phenomenal Live Versions Of “Willing And Able” & “Another Leaf” From Skydeck In Nashville
Never skip a CWG performance.
If you gathered together 50 or so of the most dedicated fans of the alternative country scene, chances are at least a dozen will tell you that Charles Wesley Godwin is one of the best artists working today. With three albums and an EP’s worth of what can only be described as brilliance, the “All Again” singer has proven time and again why he’s one of today’s premier songwriters and voices in the genre.
Though it’s hard to ignore his wholly unique vocals, it’s his writing ability that is one of Godwin’s defining characteristics. From murder ballads such as “Cranes Of Potter” and “Blood Feud” to gorgeous tributes to his family on “Gabriel,” “Dance in the Rain” and “It’s The Little Things,” there’s truly not a song the West Virginian can’t write. Of course, these stellar songs are all backed by some killer production that draws upon traditional country, Appalachian folk and Americana stylings.
While we’re still waiting for the announcement of album #4, which Godwin confirmed is in the works, he’s kept fans satisfied with a plethora of different teasers throughout 2025 and into the new year. Between “Every Once In Awhile” and “Better That Way,” as well as “Hallelujah High” and “Try Again,” it’s more than apparent that he’s looking to outdo himself once again upon the release of his next record.
As we patiently wait for new music, Godwin is keeping fans satisfied once again with the release of two killer performances, live from the Skydeck in Nashville. These two performances are none other than “Another Leaf” and “Willing and Able,” both of which are standouts from his 2023 junior album, Family Ties.

It should go without saying at this point that Godwin and his backing band, which are aptly named The Allegheny High, are one of the best in the business, consistently delivering high-energy, stellar performances night in and night out at their killer live shows. Of course, it’s no different here on the Skydeck’s “Soundcheck Session.”
Starting with “Another Leaf,” it’s easily one of the highlights on Family Ties, possessing a certain spark that begs you to roll the window and bask in the musicianship present on the track. In an already dynamic album, the track still feels special in comparison to the other stellar tracks. The tempo changes, the incredibly melodic chorus and the final breakdown in the latter half of the song make it feel like a must-have on any of Godwin’s live shows. The euphemism, “add another leaf on the tree tonight” is such a fun, unique way to say “let’s make a baby” while still tying (no pun intended) the theme of family together.
As for “Willing and Able,” I’d argue it’s Godwin’s best love ballad to date. While the aforementioned “It’s The Little Things” and the severely underrated “Sorry for the Wait” are in strong contention as well, “Willing and Able” has such a sensual feel to it lyrically that not only serves as a reminder of the West Virginian’s songwriting ability but also as a testament to the reverence he has for his wife, Samantha.
“I’ll find a nighttime plane to youAny train or bus will doI’ll get to the thresholdRun ’til the bell toll I swearI’m willing and ableI’m willing and ableI’m willing and ableTo do what I must”
As mentioned previously, Godwin and the Allegheny High are easily one of the best live acts in the genre, and it’s put on full display once again here on their “Soundcheck Session” with Skydeck. If you’re a fan of the “All Again” singer, this is a must-watch.
