State’s Lone House Republican Announces Retirement
Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV), the lone House Republican in Nevada, announced he will not seek re-election in the 2026 midterms.
“Serving the people of Nevada has been the honor of my lifetime. Nobody is prouder of our Nevada Congressional District than me. Thank you for the honor. Every achievement worth doing began with listening to Nevadans and fighting for our values,” Amodei said in a press release.
“I came to Congress to solve problems and to make sure our State and Nation have strong voice in the federal policy and oversight processes. I look forward to finishing my term. After 15 years of service, I believe it is the right time for Nevada and myself to pass the torch,” he added.

The Hill has more:
Amodei, 67, is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, overseeing funding for the Department of Homeland Security — an area that has been at the center of the latest partial government shutdown and risks another funding lapse after Feb. 13 as Democrats demand reforms to immigration enforcement.
Amodei recently made headlines in the wake of federal immigration agents killing Minneapolis intensive care nurse Alex Pretti in January, saying that immigration enforcement is “not in a good place right now.”
The number of Republicans retiring from Congress is outpacing Democrats in the House. So far, 21 House Democratic representatives have announced retirements or that they are seeking higher office.
Those figures do not include members who died while in office, members who resigned in the middle of their term, or nonvoting Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D–D.C.) and now-New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D), whose House seat will be filled in a special election before midterm election season.
Amodei is the 30th House Republican not to seek re-election this cycle.
Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) announced his retirement earlier this week.
“Serving the people of Northwest Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives is a tremendous honor; and throughout my six terms, I have focused on upholding the Constitution and representing the values of the Eleventh Congressional District and the great state of Georgia,” Loudermilk said in a statement.
“I first ran for election to Congress in 2014 and, as I stated then, representing the people in Congress is a service, not a career; and although I continue to have strong support from the people of the Eleventh Congressional District, I believe it is time to contribute to my community, state, and nation in other ways. Therefore, I have decided not to seek re-election at the end of my current term in Congress,” he continued.

Las Vegas Sun shared further:
Amodei, who also spent over a decade in the Nevada Legislature, has positioned himself as a moderate during President Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
A native of Carson City, the eight-term representative recently called for a “pivot” in Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s ongoing operation throughout Minnesota, saying they needed to better prioritize “dangerous criminal aliens” and people who have final orders of removal.
At the same time, he also criticized local “agitators” and politicians encouraging obstruction of the agency's operations.
He additionally opposed the GOP’s effort to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supports PBS and NPR, saying rural communities like those in his district relied on those outlets for information. Still, he ultimately voted for the cuts.
