Kid Rock’s Cover Of Cody Johnson’s “Til You Can’t” Rockets To #1 On iTunes – Ahead Of Bad Bunny
Not bad for a song that was announced less than 24 hours ago.
Kid Rock dropped his cover of the Cody Johnson hit “Til You Can’t” at midnight last night, and the song is already sitting at #1 in the all-genre iTunes store – ahead of Super Bowl halftime show headliner Bad Bunny.
If you watched the Turning Point USA All-American Halftime Show last night during the Super Bowl, you heard Kid Rock deliver his soulful cover of the CoJo chart-topper.
After opening with his own rockin’ song “Bawitaba,” Kid Rock slowed things down with an orchestral hymn, meant to symbolize his own spiritual journey, before being introduced by his real name, Robert Ritchie to perform his version of “Til You Can’t.” And he even added his own verse:
“There’s a book that is sitting in your house somewhere
That could use some dusting off
There’s a man that died for all our sins, hanging on the cross
You can give your life to Jesus, and he’ll give you a second chance
‘Til you can’t”
Kid introduced the new lyrics by saying that he woke up one morning and felt called to add one more verse:
“I awoke one Sunday morning all alone with this song stuck in my head, and in that moment, something or someone spoke to me. They said there was still a verse that needed to be written for this song. And to get up and write it down.”
It’s a version of the song that Kid Rock first performed back in November while filling in for CoJo during the Hondo Rodeo Fest. And ahead of the halftime show, Kid even recorded his version of “Til You Can’t” to drop as a single after the performance.
Well less than 24 hours after it was announced, the song is already sitting at the top of the iTunes chart, right ahead of CoJo’s original version, which shot up to #2, and Apple Music halftime show headliner Bad Bunny’s song “DtMF” at #3.
Kid Rock is joined at the top of the iTunes store by fellow TPUSA halftime show headliner Gabby Barrett, whose song “I Hope” is currently at #4, with Bad Bunny rounding out the top 5 with “Tití Me Preguntó.”
Ahead of the song’s release, Kid Rock revealed that he was given the blessing of both Cody Johnson and the songwriters, Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers, to record his version of their #1 hit:
“A big thank you to [Cody Johnson] and the songwriters Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers for giving me [their] blessing to record and release it, It really is one of the best written songs I have heard in a long time and NOTHING is more powerful than a great song in my book!”

Now, obviously the iTunes store isn’t an official chart, but for Kid Rock to top an international artist like Bad Bunny who just headlined the biggest performance in the world is undeniably impressive. Of course there are people who are going to hate it no matter what simply because it’s Kid Rock, but I have to admit, I dig his bluesy spin on the song – and I love the new verse he added.
