“Me & Two Dudes Singing Love Songs”: Riley Green Jokes About Writing His Steamy #1 Hit, “Worst Way”

Over the past few years, Riley Green has been nothing short of dominant. Between the success of both “Jesus Saves” and his feature on Ella Langley’s “you look like you love me,” the seemingly never-ending dating rumors surrounding him and various artists and his popularity on social media last year, he kept that momentum and then some throughout 2025. Aside from “you look like you love me,” which netted him and Langley seven ACM and CMA Awards the past two years, his most recent single, “Worst Way,” was nothing short of a smash. Beyond breaking the internet upon the release of its steamy music video last February, Green rode the waves of the track’s buzz all the way to #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in June. Ultimately, “Worst Way” became just the 39th song in the chart’s history (and the second in 13 years) to go #1 solely written by the artist who recorded the track. Just six months later, Green would return to the top of the airplay chart once again, this time with his second collaboration with Langley, “Don’t Mind If I Do.” In turn, Green became the first artist since Taylor Swift to score back-to-back solo-written #1 hits on the chart. Last night, BMI celebrated both “Worst Way” and “Don’t Mind If I Do” becoming Green’s most recent chart-toppers at a #1 party in Nashville. In addition to receiving a gold plaque for “Change My Mind,” his current single and fastest-rising track at country radio to date, “Worst Way” was also officially certified 3X-Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). At the party, Green would reflect on “Worst Way” going number one by “thanking” his co-writers before joking that he learned you make more money from royalties without additional writers. “I want to thank all of my co-writers for… oh, never mind. I figured out you make more if you write it by yourself; it’s easier that way. [You] don’t have to deal with so many people in the room.” Hilariously, the Alabama native would recall playing the track for the first time in front of frequent co-writers, Eric Dylan and Nick Walsh, describing it as “me and two dudes singing love songs,” before shouting out Dylan for the positive feedback upon hearing it. “I will say that ‘Worst Way’ was a different song for me to write, and I will never forget playing it for Eric Dylan and Nick Walsh on a bus to kinda see what they thought. And I remembered about the time it got really hot in the song, I realized it was just me and two dudes singing love songs. Eric was one of the first people who told me that song was any good, so I’m glad you did that. I’m glad I recorded it.” @billboard @Riley Green talks about writing “Worst Way” at his No. 1 party in Nashville #rileygreen #worstway #country #countrymusic ♬ original sound – billboard Later, he’d go on to thank Langley for teaming up with him once again on “Don’t Mind If I Do.” In particular, he’d reflect on just how rare it was to not only have back-to-back hits with her but also be able to perform them throughout the year on tour with her, given that she was opening up for him at the time. “I want to give a thank you to Ella Langley for being a part of  ‘Don’t Mind If I Do.’ It was such a cool thing to have two giant songs with another artist out on the road and being able to play them together every week. And it was really cool to get to watch the excitement of fans when we would get on stage and sit down on stools and play ‘Don’t Mind If I Do.’ It was such a fun moment and something that became one of my favorite parts of the tour.” @billboard @Riley Green thanks Ella Langley for being a part of “Don’t Mind If I Do” while at his No. 1 party in Nashville #rileygreen #ellalangley #country #dontmindifido ♬ original sound – billboard With Green’s current single, “Change My Mind,” currently sitting inside the Top 20 on country radio, it seems like another #1 party is on the horizon in the next few months. “Worst Way” Riley Green Tour Dates April 16th, 2026 – Southaven, MS – Landers Center#~$ April 17th, 2026 – Louisville, KY – KFC Yum!
